Mary's Grace

Martha- I used to soften the blow on her a little bit. I mean things need to get done. But question always bothered me- Why was Jesus so hard on her?

Jesus judges the heart right?

Remember Peter- No Lord you shouldn’t die- Get behind me Satan!

What was it that Jesus saw in her heart>

Was she really upset about having to do all of the work? OR was she jealous of the freedom that her sister was experiencing?

Was it duty to serve Jesus, or someone getting the benefits without the work?

What are the things that I have been attacked for?

Doing ministry without a 7 year seminary degree-

Benefits without the work.

Success without the stress-

Daring to believe God would do what He said He will do.

The world tells us we should be miserable like them!

What does Jesus say? Grace-

Vineyard owner- You show up at 8 in the morning work hard…

Someone shows up at 4:30 until 5 and gets paid the same.

Is that fair?

What if I said that the amount you get paid is 1million dollars?

It’s ridiculous right? Who cares at that point?

The problem is grace is scandalous… Because no one is getting what they deserve. We just can’t fathom it!

Why don’t people go to church? #1 reason- I am messed up and don’t want to be judged.

Why do people think Christians are hypocrites? - They expect people to do what they are unwilling or incapable of doing and they aren’t honest about their own junk,

Grace is scandalous- Just tell me what to do!

I don’t preach to have quiet times.

I don’t tell you you have to serve to come to church

You don’t have to give a certain percentage.

That is messy! That is uncontrollable. That is grace.

Back to our Mary and Martha.

Jesus says only 1 thing is required.

What is that 1 thing?

She has chosen: You have a choice!
