Fruits of the Spirit pt 1

Previous weeks
. The Kingdom of God is more then just words its power
.The ways of Holy Spirit are opposite/contrary to the ways of the flesh
.Holy Spirit begins his work in the inner man/our character
.Disciples need to be Disciplined
.Jesus as a man need the same power of Holy Spirit for his ministry.
.When you made the Decision to believe completely in the truth of Jesus and the resurrection, it was then that you received Holy Spirit who begins his work in you.
“In him you also trusted, After you had heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of his glory.
This week
Galatians 5:16-25
16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26
The New King James Version. (1982). (). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.

. Again this scripture tells us directly that the ways/things of the Spirit are not the same as the things of the world.
.there is a huge distinction between them, and it these fruits of the Spirit that we are going to focus on over the coming weeks.
The New King James Version. (1982). (). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.
.These fruits (also known as the Harvest of the Spirit) are what the Holy Spirit desires to produce in us, by his power because these things though seemingly simple at first look (most of us would say we have at least a few of these)
.All of these fruits (Karpos; fruit of tree or vine) are the spontaneous product in the heart of a believer as a result of the Holy Spirit.
.Love is the first fruit mentioned, this is no coincidence! as love is the greatest commandment, so it makes sense that the first fruit of the Spirit mentioned is love.
.There are 4 different types of love found in scripture represented by different Greek words, its important to know which type of love!
Eros (Air-ohs) is sexual/romantic love; the kind of love that God ordained for marriage between a man and a woman.
Storge (STOR-jay) this describes the affectionate bond that develops between parents and children and brothers and sisters. could be called family love.
Philia (FILL-ee-uh) is intimate love best described as the powerful emotional bond seen in deep friendships, this is the love Jesus spoke of in “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
Agape (Uh-gay-pay) This is the highest of the 4 this is the immeasurable, unconditional love that God has for humankind, a divine love a perfect love

13 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.

“ and now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
. The word love in the fruits of the Spirit is Agape love, the highest form of love, think about this and what this means for us!
. The love that Holy Spirit grows and develops within us, is not any of the human forms of love.
.it is the deepest most sacred form of love, the same love that God has for all of humankind is developed in us by the work of the Spirit.
.which is why people who have genuinely been touched/transformed by the Spirit of God, are able to reach and impact people. because the love that is shown is a much greater more pure form of love then any person who has not known God has felt before.
.these fruits are the inner works of Holy spirit being seen and tasted externally, what starts within will eventually come out. what grows in hiding will eventually be seen.
.lets make it a desire to have and to see the fruits of the Spirit harvested in our lives.
we will continue to learn more of the fruits in the coming weeks.
