Corinth
The city was situated on a plateau overlooking the Isthmus of Corinth, two miles distant from the Gulf
An isthmus (Is-Mus) is a narrow piece of land connecting two larger areas across an expanse of water by which they are otherwise separated.
Corinth thus became a great commercial center. Luxuries from all over the world were available, and the vices of the world were also to be found there.
These evils did not all have to be imported, however, for the temple of Aphrodite, the goddess of love, was nearby with 1,000 cult prostitutes who sold themselves in the name of religion.
Aphrodite (Aph - ro - dite ) is an ancient Greek goddess associated with love, beauty, pleasure, passion and procreation.
The Greeks had a proverb about the city which tells a great deal about its moral decay: “It is not every man who can afford a journey to Corinth.”
Those who were worldly wise used the verb “corinthianize” to describe an act of immorality. “Corinthian girl” was known to be a synonym for prostitute.14
Paul had completed his 18-month ministry in Corinth ()
While Paul was still ministering the Word in Ephesus, he heard that divisions were beginning to emerge among the Corinthian saints. In addition, Paul was informed of a case of gross immorality in the church, one with which the church had not dealt.

While Paul was still ministering the Word in Ephesus, he heard that divisions were beginning to emerge among the Corinthian saints. In addition, Paul was informed of a case of gross immorality in the church, one with which the church had not dealt.
Instead of feeling shame and sorrow over this sin, at least some of the saints were proud of their tolerance (chapter 5). He heard also of Christians taking their fellow-believers to court, seeking to have pagans pass judgment on spiritual matters (chapter 6).
Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come.
1 Corinthians 10:
Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.
“Things Things”
Paul begins to deal with Idolatry
Do not be idolaters as some of them were; as it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.” We must not indulge in sexual immorality as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in a single day. We must not put Christ to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents, nor grumble, as some of them did and were destroyed by the Destroyer.
1 Corinthians
1st - Exodus (The people sat down and drink and rose up to play)
2nd - 23 Thousand died from a plague (Numbers). They began to whore after the women of moab.
3rd - (Numbers) They were destroyed by serpents because they grumbled.
Paul tells us them that it was an example for them but it’s instruction for us.
Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.
1 Corinthians 10:
“Therefore” - Because we all can get caught up in making idols.
let the one who thinks he stands, be careful that he not fall.
let the one who thinks he stands, be careful that he not fall.
Stand - It represents a state of immovability in regards to ever giving in to temptation.

Take Heed - Beware of, pay attention.

Check yourself before you Reck yourself - Don’t think you can’t get caught up.
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
1 Corinthians 10:3
“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man.”
The Root of Temptation.
#1 The Root of Temption
Temptation (Greek): To be put to the test in order to ascertain the nature of someone, including imperfections, faults, or other qualities.
Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one.
Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.
Temptation is produced by our own desire.
Temptation determines our character.
(Give example)
When I fall into temptation, I have to recognize thats truly whats inside of me.
Imperfections
faults
qualities
“God Is Faithful”
Dependable
Reliable
Trustworthy
“and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability"
God is so faithful to me, that he won’t let ME get so out of control until I can’t handle ME!
“But with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”
God will provide a way of escape (A path way out)
God will provide a way to escape my own-self
So I will be able to endure my own lust!
