Theophilus

Luke 1:3 KJV 1900
It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,
he has the title most excellent

The honorific “most excellent” (Luke 1:3) might indicate a measure of power or wealth. This expression is used elsewhere to describe Roman government officials (Acts 23:26; 24:3; 26:25), which suggests that Theophilus could have been one himself.

his name means lover of God in greek

Indications that Theophilus was Gentile are reflected in Luke’s explaining certain Jewish customs or names (Acts 1:19).
