Jesus is in the temple upon which all other temples are modelled. Like kids building pillow and blanket forts in mimic of real houses. So much more real is the heavenly temple than what is on earth. The temple Solomon built, that was the awe of a nation, and glittered with skill and wealth from floor to ceiling was like a shadow, or a drawing of the place where Jesus is the high priest.

In conclusion let us consider, is this the real deal. Something you would endure loss and pain for. Would you smash your phone right now if the situation called for it?

In conclusion. The message of Hebrews chapter 8 is to assure the doubting recipients of the real deal prize of the new covenant. Found in the role of Jesus Christ as the High Priest. It is because of him in this role that they and we can endure the cost that comes with being a Christian in this life.

Now that we have heard that Jesus is the real deal high priest. That he is sitting in the real deal temple, being the real deal sacrifice, and achieving the real deal new covenant. Would you be willing to suffer a little more. To suffer for a time, just for a time, for the sake of your faith, and your God.

We are assured of his credibility in where he is in the heavenly temple. We trust him in because of what he is doing in offering sacrifice and gift. Finally, all of this is important because of what Jesus has achieved in this process. A new covenant. One that is successful in it’s salvation. A Covenant that is worth suffering for.

In the end Jesus is the real deal. But it is us that must place our faith in what he is offering and willingly endure the cost for such a worthy prize.

We are assured of his credibility in where he is in the heavenly temple. We trust him in because of what he is doing in offering sacrifice and gift. Finally, all of this is important because of what Jesus has achieved in this process. A new covenant. One that is successful in it’s salvation. A Covenant that is worth suffering for.

It is only when we see Jesus as a blanket fort priest, and doubt the prize at the end of the journey that our faith begins to faulter and we lay aside Jesus for a handful of comforts. It is his authenticity, his “real dealitude” that holds us.

Today, we may not find this to be a challenging message. Today when we are not challenged in our faith, and the persecution may be little in comparison. But we are promised that there is a day coming where the suffering will be far greater. Now is the time to dwell on the real deal of Jesus.

The problem with the church that received this letter of Hebrews is that over the length of their faith they didn’t pursue maturity in their admiration of the reality of Jesus. They didn’t grow as Christians. And one day, the prize didn’t look so believable, the cost felt to high. And the began to throw away their faith.

It is in Christ as the real deal High priest that suffering is worth enduring.

I pray that you are assured this morning of the legitimacy of the offer Jesus has but forward.

Though we may not find this message a challenge today, there will be a day where we regret not pursuing growth in understanding the reality of Jesus. A day where the cost of faith seems greater than the reward. That is a day to be feared.
