Seek & Save

v.10 Jesus’ purpose was to SEEK & SAVE the lost

SEEK (zeteo or zetesai) a desire to look for something

SAVE (sozo) to save or deliver from bad, to be made well

Pay attention to the character of Jesus & context of his actions

He just recently talked about his imminent death, he then stops while traveling in Jericho to heal a blind man, and then now stops while traveling through Jerusalem

Read vs. 1-10

vs.2 tax collector = hated by many, especially the religious people

Zaccheus was very rich, but there was one thing he did not have, something he was curious about

vs. 5-7 Jesus approaches Zaccheus asks him to come down quickly so they can go to his house

Zaccheus got down quickly and joyfully

Jesus doesn’t want us to wait around, he wants you now

the religious snobs turned their nose up at what Jesus did, but Jesus will cross through any cultural or social boundary to seek & save lost people

vs. 8 We don’t know what was said or done at this point, but we know when verse 8 approaches, Zaccheus is a new and different man. He is willing & ready to sell his fortunes, give pack to the poor & refund those he overcharged plus more. He was taking restitution from the Law of Moses seriously.

Zaccheus saw that he was a broken man dead in sin, and he repented to the point of wanting to sell all he had ()

vs. Zaccheus’ faith is what saves him

What we can learn from Zaccheus:

He sought to see Jesus despite obstacles

He looked past what the world says is good, and saw that he needed something more—Jesus

When Jesus asked him to come out of the tree, he did so quickly with joy

Salvation brings repentance and change of lifestyle

What we can learn from Jesus:

Despite what he was doing on his journey, Jesus sought out Zaccheus

Jesus did not let any kind of prejudice get in his way

Jesus’ mission and that of his followers is to seek and save the lost

Search for lost people and tell them about the Savior
