Water To Wine
Today we are going to look at one of the first recorded miracles of Jesus.
It can be found in John Chapter 2
Its the story of Jesus turning Water to wine.
Lets read the story a little bit
John 2
Now how does this apply to us?
Well first we need to understand that weddings back then were big deals, even today.
We know weddings are big deals today.
But back then they would last around 7 days.
They were for the whole community and the family not just the two getting married.
We know from the first part of the story, that they were on day 3 of the wedding and they ran out of wine.
Now this is a big deal back then.
They were responsible to provide the food and wine for the whole week.
It brought shame to the family if they were to run out.
So Mary, Jesus mom brought the attention to Jesus.
Jesus Response
In Vs 4 we see Jesus response.
Here Jesus was not mad at his mom or trying to speak rudely to his mom.
Instead he was pointing out that his time to reveal himself fully as the Son of God has not came just yet.
He was still kinda flying under the radar for a lack of a better way of saying it.
But Jesus understood something had to be done.
So he quietly stepped in to action.
We see in in vs 7 and 8what he said
When the waiter tasted it He was shocked Because the wine was good lol.
in fact he went up to the groom and said in vs 10
So they would start off with the good wine and when people could no longer tell the difference they brought out the bad stuff.
What Does This Mean For Us
Through all of this Jesus did it quietly the groom the head waiter and the rest of the party did not know what he did.
Only his disciple a couple of the servant and his mother knew what he did.
He did this quietly.
We are called to do the same.
We are called to help people and do it quietly.
that some times can be hard to do.
We like that pat on our back.
But we have to remember we are earning our reward in heaven not here on earth.
