Passage -
31 When the words that David spoke were heard, they repeated them before Saul, and he sent for him.
32 And David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.”
33 And Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him, for you are but a youth, and he has been a man of war from his youth.”
34 But David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep sheep for his father. And when there came a lion, or a bear, and took a lamb from the flock,
35 I went after him and struck him and delivered it out of his mouth. And if he arose against me, I caught him by his beard and struck him and killed him.
36 Your servant has struck down both lions and bears, and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be like one of them, for he has defied the armies of the living God.”
37 And David said, “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you!”

Title: Godfidence
Title: Godfidence
ME:
I played football from the age of 9-18.
I enjoyed that time in my life.
My body is paying for it now!
Lucas played from the age of 9-12
My son Logan played his freshman year in High School.
He had no desire to play until then.
I remember a conversation he and I had on the way to a game once.
He said, “I hope I don’t mess up tonight!”
I informed him that this was the wrong attitude to have.
I asked him, “Did you practice hard? Did you prepare for this weeks opponent?”
If you have done this and did it well then have confidence in the preparation.
You have worked hard through the week preparing for this team you are facing.
You see, this mentality/perspective “I hope I don’t mess up tonight” is one that lacks confidence!
Transitional Statement:
Many of us probably know the definition of the word “Confidence”?
a feeling or belief that you can rely on someone or something: Firm trust!
I was talking with someone the other day and they said, “My football team is going to lose this weekend!”
Their reply was, “”You need to have confidence!”
I said, “I do! I am confident my football team is going to lose!”
When I am talking about Confidence, its not this kind of confidence!
I am talking about “GODFIDENCE!”
Believing in the one who you can rely on and trust!
We should not be waking up every day saying .....
“I hope I don’t wreck today”
“I hope I don’t get fired today”
“I hope I don’t screw up my kids today”
“I Hope I don’t have an affair today”
“I Hope I please God today”
“I Hope I don’t let Him down”
This is a “fearing to fail” mindset and not a mindset that is full of “Godfidence!”
Transition Statement: God’s desire is not for us to fear failure but to live Godfidently!
GOD:
There are so many examples of those who live Godfidently in scripture.
The one I think you might be the most familiar with is found in the story of David and Goliath.
We read in David was visiting the battle that was taking place.
Isreal on one side of the mountain and the Philistines on the other side with a valley separating them.
Every day a giant named Goliath would come to the valley and taunt the army of Israel.
David, at this time in his life, was a (possibly) young teenager.
He was a armor bearer to King Saul
The sequence of events found in I Samuel:
: David was anointed King by Samuel
: The Spirit of God was removed from King Saul and replaced with a tormenting one.
: David was introduced to Saul to sooth the torment (Music).
: This leads us up to this account we read about in -37
David is a worshipper of God
We get a sense of David asking the question, “Why hasn’t anyone kicked this Philistines butt yet?”
“I’ll Do it!”
This gets back to King Saul and the King summons him to his presence.
He scolds him in a sense but King David shares with him, “I Have Godfidence, that the Lord will help me strike down this uncircumcised Philistine.”
David didn’t wake up every morning saying, .....
...... “I hope I don’t get ate up by a bear or a lion today!”
...... “I hope I don’t lose today!”
This was not his mindset!
Davids mindset was one of Godfidence!
In verses 34-37 David list out the reasoning of this Godfidence: it all found in the heart!
(Vs 34) He has a servant heart! (Serves his Father(34), Serves the King(32) Serves the Lord)
(Vs 35) He has a protecting heart! (Protection of the flock, the Kings honor, the Lords honor)
(Vs 35b) He has a warriors heart! (A warrior) (fought off the Lions and bears)
(Vs 36) He has a courageous heart! (Bear or lion rose against him he killed them)
*Vs 37) He has a heart for God! (The Lord is with Him!)
Other people see this Godfidence in you!
...... “I hope I don’t get ate up by a bear or a lion today!”
..... “I hope I don’t lose today!”

English Standard Version Chapter 16
17 So Saul said to his servants, “Provide for me a man who can play well and bring him to me.”
18 One of the young men answered, “Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skillful in playing, a man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a man of good presence, and the LORD is with him.”
YOU:
Let me ask you this morning ...... “Do you have Godfidence?”
If so … Praise the Lord! Now live in it!
Be a Servant of His!
Be the protector for God!
Be a warrior for the King!
Be courageous!
Allow your HEARTBEAT TO BE HIS HEARTBEAT!
Some of you might be saying, “I have been struggling with my Godfidence.”
Strip those hinderances away! (Illustration Roman days)!
Whats hindering you?
