Total Depravity

They did not believe V 34 -36
Turn to Romans 3: 9-18 The depraved nature None is righteous - does not meet Gods standard
No one understands- mind is fallen, depraved
None seek after God- runs and hides
None do good- Works are not good enough
No Not One
dead, blind
Article III of the Baptist Confession of 1644 states: “God had in Christ before the foundation of the world according to the good pleasure of his will foreordained some men to eternal life through Jesus Christ to the praise and glory of his grace leaving the rest in their sin to their just condemnation to the praise of his justice.”
There is no way man can come to God
Jesus dying on the cross would not save anyone unless the Father drew them
John 6:44 AV
No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

The purpose of God According to Election

Turn to Romans 9
V 6 Abraham chosen out of the Ur of the Chaldees
V 7 Isaac not Ismael
V 11 twins one is chosen
they were not chosen because of how good they were or how bad
they both were born with a depraved nature
all are lost because of their Total depravity
God’s sovereign election chose to save some
who, why, I don’t Know
that is God’s resposibility
God is giving us a lesson in election with these brothers
before they are born, before they have done good or bad
The false use of Foreknowledge says, that God looks down through time and sees who will choose Him. thus god will choose them
God is saying in V 11 before the fact of what conduct of the boys was, God chose
Total depravity says that neither one would chose God
Gods purpose/Will is being established
V 12 not by works but ONE (GOD) who calls
V 13 Esau was not chosen
V 14 Rhetorical Question
V 14-16 it all depends on God

Its Not Fair!

God choosing some and not others?
we all deserve Justice , hell for eternity
we all think there is something good in us that God has to reward
Turn to Matt 20: 1- 16
anything they received from God—was a gift flowing from the grace of God only. God owes us nothing, not even a chance to hear and respond to the gospel.
Boice, J. M. (2001). The Gospel of Matthew (pp. 417–418). Grand Rapids, MI: Baker Books.
the owner is the payee, and he has the right to give as much as he wants
Grace is entirely a gift- not earned
not merited
God does not wrong anyone by withholding Grace
Paul knew that there would be opposition to this theology so he inserted these verses
Romans 9:15–16 AV
For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.
is God unjust? no He is just merciful to whom he wills
God has the freedom to be merciful ,or just
no one will be in heaven unless for mercy
no one will go to hell undeservedly
none will depend on our works or will
Very passionate, are the opposers to this theology
but the opposers does not take into account the whole council of God
We must stand on Gods word, what He says
and if we read God’s word and be honest with ourselves we would see over and over the chosen ones

Pharaoh Is Hardened

V 17 giving an example
Exodus 4:21 AV
And the LORD said unto Moses, When thou goest to return into Egypt, see that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in thine hand: but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go.
Some one told me this one time “I don't know why God hardened Pharaohs heart. it was not right, and when I get to heaven I'm going to talk to God about that”
I have read many explanations as to what happened here
one says that God pulled his restraining hand off
one says that God spiritually made him badder than he was
Exodus 7:13 AV
And he hardened Pharaoh’s heart, that he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.
God Hardened his heart
Exodus 8:15 AV
But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite, he hardened his heart, and hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.
Pha Hardened his own heart Just as God said. implying that Pha hardening his own heart was part of Gods plan
this I know God had a hand in hardening of Pharaoh
God was not neutral in the hardening
was Pharaoh's will changed? yes
V 17 God made him, gave him the personality, education, temperament, hard heart, for this moment in history
V 18 Mercy and hardening
V 19-21 God is God Almighty
ISAIAH - King Cyrus

45 1  Thus says ADONAI to Koresh, his anointed,

whose right hand he has grasped,

so that he subdues nations before him

and strips kings of their robes,

so that doors open in front of him,

and no gates are barred:

2  “I will go ahead of you,

levelling the hills,

shattering the bronze gates,

smashing the iron bars.

3  I will give you treasures

hoarded in the dark,

secret riches hidden away,

so that you will know that I, ADONAI,

calling you by your name,

am the God of Isra’el.

4  It is for the sake of Ya‘akov my servant,

yes, for Isra’el my elect,

that I call you by your name

and give you a title, although you don’t know me.

5  I am ADONAI; there is no other;

besides me there is no God.

I am arming you, although you don’t know me,

6  so that those from the east and those from the west

will know that there is none besides me—

I am ADONAI; there is no other.

7  I form light, I create darkness;

I make well-being, I create woe;

I, ADONAI, do all these things.

8  “Heavens above, rain down justice;

let the clouds pour it down.

Let the earth open,

so that salvation springs up,

and justice sprouts with it.

I, ADONAI, have created it.”

9  Woe to anyone who argues with his maker,

like potsherds lying on the ground!

Does the clay ask the potter, “What are you doing?”

or, “What’s this you’re making, that has no hands?”

10  Woe to him who asks a father,

“Of what are you the father?”

or who asks a woman,

“To what are you giving birth?”

11  Thus says ADONAI,

the Holy One of Isra’el, his Maker:

“You ask for signs concerning my children?

You give orders concerning the work of my hands?

12  I am the one who made the earth!

I created human beings on it!

I—my hands—stretched out the heavens,

and directed all their number.

13  I am stirring up Koresh to righteousness,

I am smoothing out all his paths.

He will rebuild my city;

and he will free my exiles,

taking neither ransom nor bribe,”

says ADONAI-Tzva’ot.

What Does Unconditional Election Mean to Me?

Ephesians 1:6 AV
To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
we can praise God for our salvation
from beginning to end
It is Gods work
Christians that don't believe in election are always afraid
Humbled by the fact that it was totally by Gods grace and not of ourselves, the same lump of clay that made Hitler, made you
we can look at others differently. Washington, the people I work for, our nasty neighbor, our good neighbor
We can evangelize with confidence. knowing that God is doing all the work
we don’t have to wonder, did that person understand completely? some are planting , watering, reaping
