Value
Value
There is an old business saying that maintains that the value of an object is what someone is willing to pay for it.
This is evident whey you look at what an item cost to make and what we pay for it.
bottled water has up to a %4000 mark up. We pay more for water than we do gasoline.
Prescription drugs have upwards of a %3000 mark up.
This morning we will answer the question what is a child worth to a father. and as important, what is a father worth to a child.
14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance,
15 but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior;
16 because it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
17 If you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your stay on earth;
18 knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers,
19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.
20 For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you
21 who through Him are believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
22 Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart,
23 for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God.
24 For,
“All flesh is like grass,
And all its glory like the flower of grass.
The grass withers,
And the flower falls off,
25 But the word of the Lord endures forever.”
And this is the word which was preached to you.
1 Peter 1:14-
Be Different
Be Different
Do not be conformed to your former lusts.
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
11 Like a dog that returns to its vomit
Is a fool who repeats his folly.
Lust- craving, deep desire.
Addict behavior. Willing to sacrifice anything and everything to get.
Church response : out law the behavior.
go crack open a Budweiser at the Arkansas State Baptist Convention.
Biblical response: Be Holy. Focus on Christ.
Holy: pure, dedicated to something else, consecrated.
Often times we will go to the grocery store with the intentions of getting stuff for the week, but have in mind what we will be cooking that evening. When we get home, and put up the food, the items that will be used that night will be set to the side. They are separated from the rest of the food for the purpose of using it right away.
God Saved you. God has a purpose for you and has declared that you are to be Holy. Set apart for His purpose.
Holy is not a christian competition.
Being Holy is spiritual and behavior separation, not a physical separation.
YOU CANNOT BE SALT AND LIGHT TO THE WORLD, IF YOU ARE HIDDEN FROM THE WORLD.
YOU CAN’T BE SALT AND LIGHT TO THE WORLD, IF YOU YOU ACT JUST LIKE THE WORLD.
BE DIFFERENT.
Actions have consequences
Actions have consequences
Newton’s third law of physics says for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Bullet and gun have the same amount of energy in the opposite direction.
Your actions, have consequences.
17 If you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your stay on earth;
Your daddy is fair, and He’s not going to take it easy on you, because you are His kid. As a matter of fact, He will expect more of you because you are His Kid.
6 For those whom the Lord loves He disciplines,
And He scourges every son whom He receives.”
Your stay on earth. As an alien.
Fear: Phobos : state of terror. Reverence.
Phobophobia.
I don’t want to be disciplined by God
I don’t want to disappoint my Father.
You are valuable to God
You are valuable to God
Glen Heggstad - To Hell and back. Motorcycle ride from California to Cape Horn. Kidnapped in Columbia.
Mexico and Columbia : use caution.
Venezuela and Haiti : Don’t go.
The reason a ransom is paid is because someone has you captive and it is the value that you have to the people that want you free.
Mexico $50 millions a year ransom paid.
18 knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers,
19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.
1 Peter 1:
Redeemed : liberated, free someone by paying a ransom’s price.
God wasn’t caught off guard.
20 For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you
21 who through Him are believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
Before God made the world, He knew we would sin, knew Jesus would have to come, and die, and yet he still made you.
Love one another
Love one another
1 Peter 1:
22 Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart,
Since you have accepted Christ, love one another sacrificially.
John 13:13
13 “You call Me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so I am.
14 “If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.
15 “For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you.
It is an act of obedience.
It glorifies God.
It demonstrates Christ to the world.
20 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who receives whomever I send receives Me; and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.”
Closing
23 for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God.
24 For,
“All flesh is like grass,
And all its glory like the flower of grass.
The grass withers,
And the flower falls off,
