Tonight’s passage will give us an account of the temple rebuild restart.
Haggai and Zechariah, the two characters mentioned in the start of our text tonight, were prophets used of God to exhort the people of Israel to begin the work again.
Before we dive into our focal text, let’s look at the piercing prophesy that charged the movement of the Israelites.
When the People of God Work Together…The Work of God is Accomplished.
Notice the text reminds us that the prophets of God were with them.
Not only did they prophesy, but they remained in support.
We should note that Israel feared the people of the land because of their desire to stop the building.
Further, the Jews may have had a bit of fear because of their previous captivity.
The next three verses begin an inquisition and a confidence.
The Enemy Will Use Government & Culture to Stop the Movement of God & His People.
Notice three ideas in the text:
Who gave you permission?
Who are you?
They did not stop.
Basically, the governors, his associates, and the foreigners were seeking to intimidate and hinder the Jews.
Why did the Jews not stop?
When IntimidationFails, the Enemy will Increase His Attack.
The letter is the basic information gathered from their inquiry with the addition of a bit of lathering up.
The governor’s desire was to seemingly be on the side of the ruler and to gain favor.
Further the governor’s desire was to protect what was his power and authority.
What does this have to do with church revitalization?
When the present church stands in opposition to change it is usually caused by the following:
A desire to keep the status quo.
A desire to remain a big fish in a small pond.
The fear a change will not fit their personal preferences.
A fear of loss of intimacy.
What is the heart matter in most of the above?
