Setting-Jesus has just told the disciples that one of them will betray him and He is leaving.
1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.
2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
4 And you know the way to where I am going.”
5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?”
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
They will to go with...
Jesus has just expressed that they will not be allowed to go, Yet.
Imagine that you had left all behind to follow a teacher.
Imagine that that teacher had poured into you for three years and now it is time for Him to go.
Imagine that you could not fathom what to do next.
Imagine that you would feel lost, heartbroken, and maybe even abandoned...

Don’t Be Overwhelmed!
Don’t Be Overwhelmed!
1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.
His heart was resolved to keep the disciples feeling secure and with steadfast hope/faith.
Notice that Jesus is not mincing words. He uses an imperative in the Greek which implies a command.
The essence was, “don’t stop, don’t turn back, don’t quit.”
There are many days when we all need this sort of reminder.
Jesue follows with...
Trust Me!
Trust Me!
John 14:2
2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
4 And you know the way to where I am going.”
When Jesus says “Father’s House”, we should hear “Heaven”.
Jesus is saying that heaven has plenty of space for them and all of His disciples.
The Heart of His communication: “I am going to make your bed,” or “I am going to ready your room.”
When I get your stuff ready I am coming back to take you home.
Have you ever felt unwanted, undesirable, unnecessary, or discarded?
Jesus is saying, “I want you with me!”
Follow Me!
Follow Me!
John 14:
5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?”
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
The words follow me are not in the text, but are implicit in that Jesus had just said “and you know the way to where I am going.”
We always give Thomas a hard time, but he just says what the others are thinking and are too cowardly to say.
The Way > The Truth > The Life
Jesus says, in no uncertain terms, you can’t get to where I am going (heaven and most importantly the Father’s presence) without Me.
So Follow Me!
As children, we always have the thought: “Why?”
Know Me!
Know Me!
7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
if you knew me
now you do!
