Title - Introduction To Adult Bible Study
Text -
14 But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them,
15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Central Truth
The Bible is the single most important tool that a Christian will need in order to grow and mature in the faith, and Bible study is the means by which it is gained.
The Nature of the Bible
The Nature of the Bible
Why is the Bible so important to the Christian faith?
It is essentially the Word of God.
It is essentially the Word of God.
What do we mean by the phrase “word of God”?
It means the words that were “spoken” by God which were later transcribed by the authors of the books.
It means the message, the thought, the ideas contained in the written Scripture
many words in the Bible were actually spoken by men, angels, even demons. But the thoughts and ideas behind the story is essentially the Word of God.
Why is the Bible the Word of God?
Because it contains the thoughts, the message of God.
Because it reveals to man what was in God’s mind and heart.
27 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write these words, for according to the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.”
Exodus 34.27
2 Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it.
7 Surely the Lord God does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.
7 Surely the Lord God does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.
8 A lion has roared! Who will not fear? The Lord God has spoken! Who can but prophesy?
The Bible is God’s revelation of His character and will.
The Bible is God’s revelation of His character and will.
12 “And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul,
13 and to keep the commandments of the Lord and His statutes which I command you today for your good?
Deuteronomy 10.12
8 He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?
10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet,
11 saying, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last,” and, “What you see, write in a book and send it to the seven churches which are in Asia: to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea.”
The Bible is Inspired by the Spirit of God
The Bible is Inspired by the Spirit of God
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
given by inspiration - “God breathed”
Illustration - - God breathed into the mass of clay and lived
9 For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.
19 And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts;
21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
The Bible is infallible
The Bible is infallible
Infallibility - The characteristic of being incapable of failing to accomplish a predetermined purpose. In Protestant theology infallibility is usually associated with Scripture. The Bible will not fail in its ultimate purpose of revealing God and the way of salvation to humans.
whatever it says will happen will in fact happen
2 Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it.
The Bible is inerrant.
The Bible is inerrant.
Inerrancy - The idea that Scripture is completely free from error. It is generally agreed by all theologians who use the term that inerrancy at least refers to the trustworthy and authoritative nature of Scripture as God’s Word, which informs humankind of the need for and the way to salvation. Some theologians, however, affirm that the Bible is also completely accurate in whatever it teaches about other subjects, such as science and history.
the Bible is trustworthy in its accounts
30 As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.
