Have you ever wondered what you must do to be saved?

Have you ever wondered what you must do to be saved?  Even in bible time people wanted to know (Acts 16:30).  This question is the most important question that a person can ask, and the answer is worth more than the world can offer.  Salvation is given through the love of God (Jn. 3:16-17).  By receiving Jesus we can become sons and daughters of God (Jn. 1:12).  He teaches us through His word what must be obeyed in order to be saved (Heb. 5:8-9).

1. We must acknowledge Jesus as “the Christ” (Mt. 16:16).  He is the anointed One.  He has all authority (Mt. 28:18).  He is the Son of God with power (Rom. 1:4).  God made Him both Lord and Christ (Acts 2:36).
2. We must hear “The Gospel.”  There is a message of salvation from God.  That message is the Gospel.  Jesus the Christ commanded that the Gospel be preached in the entire world and to every creature (Mk. 16:15).  The Gospel is the power God uses to save (Rom 1:16).  The Gospel is the standard God uses for obedience (2 Thes. 1:8).
3. We must believe “The Gospel.”  The Gospel contains three essential facts that must be believed.  Jesus died for our sins (1 Cor. 15:3).  Jesus was buried (1 Cor. 15:4), and Jesus rose again the third day according to the scripture (1 Cor. 15:4). Our belief in what Jesus has done for mankind removes man’s need to work for their salvation.  We must believe that Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection satisfies God’s requirements.
4. We must repent.  Repentance is changing your mind and turning another way.  When we repent we turn to Him who has the power to save.  We turn to Jesus the Christ.  The first example of people desiring to be saved includes repentance (Acts 2:28).
5. We must be baptized into Christ.  Jesus teaches baptism to be essential to salvation (Mk. 16:16).  Peter teaches that baptism is essential to salvation (1 Pt. 3:21).  Peter teaches that baptism precedes the remission of sins (Acts 2:38).  Paul teaches that baptism is the point at which “the old man” is crucified, “the body of sin” is destroyed, and baptism results in man’s freedom from sin (Rom. 6:3-7).  When the Eunuch studied with Philip, the Eunuch did not want to wait to receive these benefits (Acts 8:36-38).
6. We must be obedient.  Every example of people being saved and becoming Christians includes the same pattern of teaching, belief, and baptism (Acts 2:22-38; 8:12; 8:35-38; 10:33-11:14; 16:14-15, 25-33; 22:16).
7. We must continue in the teaching.  In Acts 2:38-47 scripture reveals the first example of men and women becoming Christians, and it teaches some essential points of continuation.  Continue in the doctrine (teaching) of the apostles.  Continue in fellowship with those of like faith.  Continue in remembrance of Jesus’ death.  Continue praising God and giving yourself in service to Him.

Through God’s word, we learn exactly what to do to be saved.  If a person would lay their lives along side the word of God and adjust their lives to match up with the pattern of scripture, then you will become what scripture teaches and calls you to be.  This is an honest pursuit, by those desiring to be honorable.
