Shallow Theology - Profession

Mark 12:35–37 KJV 1900

35 And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the Son of David? 36 For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool. 37 David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he then his son? And the common people heard him gladly.

We must be careful that we do not accept a Shallow Theology...

Theology is simply the study of God and that is centered around God’s Word. Theos = God; Logos = ถ้อยคำ/Word คำสอน/Discourse , and ศาสตร์/Doctrine, bringing us to say that theology is the study of the discourse, or Word, of God. In a broader meaning, we can say it is the study of how God deals with everything.

This is not just relegated to the leaders of churches and denominations. Vs. 37 tells us that the common people heard Him gladly!

God is no respecter of persons.

We are to grow deeper in our understanding of God and how He loves, works and Who He is! - Moving beyond...

There are those who emphasis ONLY basic salvation teaching and things that pertain to salvation…that is the beginning point!

We are to grow with that as our foundation, but there is more to our salvation than just that!

2 Peter 3:15-18

Have you ever met a preacher who was ...

Boasting about his church?

Boasting about his prayer life?

Boasting about his preaching?

Boasting about his travels in ministry?

Boasting about his connections to important people?

Boasting about his clothes? whether they were nice or casual?

You may not be a pastor, but a pastor is to be an example to the members of how a CHRISTIAN should live…ALL Christians. The problem is not just the leaders, but those who follow will not rise above their leaders!

The problem is not the charismatics who promote competition among themselves, the problem is people have these problems of pride and we WANT to compare ourselves with others!

Paul makes it clear that we are NOT in competition with each other!

Don’t do anything based on “beating” some other Christian in “serving God”

Also, you may find yourself as a church in need of a pastor, or you may move and be a part of a church that is searching for a pastor. In that circumstance, you need to look for a pastor that is humble before God! One who follows the Word of God.

We do not want normal Christians, we want faithful, godly christians!

When you read the Bible, look for the attributes of God and how that applies to your life - How can you be a little more like God/Christ in that area than before?

holiness - He is Holy

Honest - God cannot lie

Love - Love God, Love your neighbour

Just -

Forgiving -

etc.

We are to be conformed into the image of Christ, but most of us are more interested in being conformed into the image of this world! ; .

The point of this story by Christ is not to say, “Don’t plan and work hard.” The point is to not make this earthly life the focus and goal of your life without regard to what God wants!

Many people don’t give to God because of their own desires...

This widow lady had needs, but Christ knew that she had given ALL she had.

It is not a question of how much you give to God, but how much you hold back from Him!!! In this context of loving God, I’m not asking you to give all your money in the offering…I’m asking if God has you? Is your money more important than God?

There is no verse in the NT that commands a tithe, but throughout the OT, that was common. In the NT, we see they gave all…wow...

My personal heart check is to ask if God gets the most of my paycheck?

Does He get the most of my time? Worship, Devotions, witnessing, etc.

Does He get a Tithe of my time?

Are you seeking to learn more of the Word of God? If you go an study in school, you have organized things to learn…Do you have a plan to grow in Grace and knowledge of God? Outside of my preaching?

The spiritual leaders of Christ’s day were doing what they did to be seen of men…are you doing what you are doing for God, or men?

Where is your heart today? This can be answered by looking at where your money goes every month.
