Sermon in a Sentence
The reality is we can get so busy doing things for God that we can forget to know God,
Introduction
Paint a picture of all the good things a vanguard college student can do. Paint a picture of the best vanguard student.

As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made.

Body
1. Martha’s Distraction & Frustration
Why are Martha’s preparations considered distractions?
Doesn’t God call us to be servant leaders?

She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Martha’s question to Jesus

She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

Martha’s question to Jesus

Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

Lord, don’t you care
Martha is distracted and frustrated
2. How does Jesus Respond to this?

Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

3. Jesus answer creates this choice in priorities

The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

In response Jesus answers with a subtle question
3. Why does God deserve to be our priority
I want you all to close your eyes for a moment. I’m going to read Paul’s description of Jesus in Colossians, I want you not only to listen, but create a mental picture of how Jesus is being described.

The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. Conclusion
The reality is we can get so busy doing things for God that we can forget to know God
The reality is we can get so busy doing things for God that we can forget to know God,
What is your priority? How are you posturing yourself before God?
The reality is we can get so busy doing things for God that we can forget to know God,
I believe these are really valuable questions we need to constantly be asking ourselves because the reality is we can get so busy doing things for God that we can forget to know God
