37 Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.
38 “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’ ”
39 But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
john 7:37-39
john 7:37-39
On the last day of the feast of tabernacles, the Jews drew water and poured it out before the Lord… If any man desires to be truly and for ever happy, let him apply to Christ, and be ruled by him. This thirst means strong desires after spiritual blessings, which nothing else can satisfy; so the sanctifying and comforting influences of the Holy Spirit, were intended by the waters which Jesus called on them to come to Him and drink.... The Spirit dwelling and working in believers, is as a fountain of living, running water, out of which plentiful streams flow, cooling and cleansing as water. The miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit we do not expect, but for his more common and more valuable influences we may apply. These streams have flowed from our glorified Redeemer, down to this age, and to the remote corners of the earth. May we be anxious to make them known to others.
Notice, “now on the last day, the great day of the feast.
33 “Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear.
Again this is referring to the feast of Tabernacles.
16 John answered and said to them all, “As for me, I baptize you with water; but One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to untie the thong of His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

During N.T. times the priests, for each of the first seven days of the feast in Jerusalem, would go down to the pool of Siloam in a religious procession with large water jugs and there at the pool of Siloam they would fill the water jugs and come up the many steps to the Temple mount commemorating the long expected anticipation of the promise given through the prophet Isaiah (Heb. Yeshayahu):
1 Then you will say on that day, “I will give thanks to You, O Lord; For although You were angry with me, Your anger is turned away, And You comfort me.
2 “Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; For the Lord God is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation.”
3 Therefore you will joyously draw water From the springs of salvation.
4 And in that day you will say, “Give thanks to the Lord, call on His name. Make known His deeds among the peoples; Make them remember that His name is exalted.”

Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; 'For YAH, the LORD, is my strength and song; he also has become my salvation.'" Therefore with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. And in that day you will say: "Praise the LORD, call upon His name; declare His deeds among the peoples, make mention that His name is exalted.”
As they approached with the water jugs the people would burst forth in singing the "Hallel Psalms" () and as the people were praising the Lord they would pour out these water jugs upon the Pavement and as the water poured they were reminded of how God miraculously provided water in the wilderness out of the Rock, and will also one day pour water from heaven on their thirsty souls through the Messiah.
4 and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was Christ.
The Water that came out of the Rock, Christ. Was the Holy Spirit.
And it quench the thirst of the children of Isreal.
My question this morning is, “what is coming out of you?”
The Holy Spirit as Water
The Holy Spirit as Water

3 ‘For I will pour out water on the thirsty land And streams on the dry ground; I will pour out My Spirit on your offspring And My blessing on your descendants;
jeus says what been deposited in you must come out.
14 For the body is not one member, but many.
38 “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’ ”
john 7
That why Jesus says in
18 “But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man.
whats in you, will come out.
19 Do not quench the Spirit;
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
NASB9522 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Sin brings bondage and bondage brings sin
And Christ came to set the sinner free.
Sin brings bondage and bondage brings sin And Christ came to set the sinner free.lets look at some context
It is the desire of God for these fruits to flow out of us.
lets look at some context
1 It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.
NASB951 It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.
One very important key here
If you have been set free, be free!!!
Webster defines freedom as - the state of being free from the control or power of another.
example, we owe our freedom to the untold numbers of soldiers who have fought in our nation's wars since its founding.
notice the context..
Paul is referring to life under the law verses life under the spirit. in verse 18 he lets us know
18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.
NASB9518 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.
Lets look quickly at verse 16 reading it with 18
16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.
17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.
18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.
gal 5:
NASB9516 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. 17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.
Paul is letting us know that the law can not give man freedom over their flesh.
so the question becomes what is the Flesh?
this speaks of our senses.
God does not want us control by our senses.
He doesn’t want the tail wagging the dog.
again, the law can not give man freedom over their flesh.
No one will be justified by the law, the law brings guilt, judgment and death; it is unable to set the sinner free or justify him before God. No flesh can be justified by the law.
Freedom, true freedom in itself is a work of the holy spirit.
I must say It is a desire of every man to be free.
gal 5:
19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality,
20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions,
21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.the spirit frees us from sin’s bondage
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
