A Victorious Life/Church!

Contributed by Mark Kang on Jan 17, 2006

Today is a day of strong decisions - We need to make the choice that we will do what it takes for the victory.
Today is a day of a renewed mind - I am not going to think the way that I have always thought.
“If we do what we have always done then we will only get what we have always got”.
Today is a day of disciplined living - I choose that I am going to discipline myself.
Today is a day of certain progress - the outcome of making the right decision in our lives.
Lets Pray:
Scripture:
2 Corinthians 2:14–16 NKJV
14 Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. 15 For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. 16 To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life. And who is sufficient for these things?
2 Corinthians 2:14–17 NKJV
14 Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. 15 For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. 16 To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life. And who is sufficient for these things? 17 For we are not, as so many, peddling the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ.
Acts 2:43 NKJV
43 Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.

Summary: Being a Christian is no guarantee for victory, we must follow God’s recipe for success.

"But thanks be to God who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ."
2 Corinthians 2:14 NKJV
14 Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.
2 Corinthians 2:12 NKJV
12 Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ’s gospel, and a door was opened to me by the Lord,
2Cor 2:14
You ever feel like your Christian life is full of defeat and setback? When things are going wrong it’s easy to point things out. But to have victory in your marriage, your church, at work or school takes many ingredients.
For us to be victorious I believe there are many areas that we need to work on in our lives. Today I wont us to focus on three of these areas
1. Our need for Training
2. Our need to be apart of Teamwork
3. How we function Practically
Lets begin with (OUR NEED FOR TRAINING)
1. Our need for Training
Can you imagine a sports team that didn’t train? What would you give their chances to win a championship?
In we read about David and Goliath.
We get inspired to face the "Goliath’s" in our life (fear, sin, relationships, etc.) only to find out that sometimes those challenges were too great for us!
Where did David get the faith to have victory over Goliath?
How come God gives him victory but I keep falling flat on my face?
The answer is that David trained himself:
But David said to Saul, "your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off sheep from a flock, I went after it, struck it and killed it. Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them..."
1 Samuel 17:34–36 NKJV
34 But David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep his father’s sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, 35 I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it. 36 Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.”
Before David defeated Goliath he defeated the bear and the lion. That is not just a normal everyday thing that is done. (if a Lion or a Bear ran in here right now, what would do?)
Train yourselves to be Godly
1 Timothy 4:7 NKJV
7 But reject profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise yourself toward godliness.
Godliness is more than a decision, it must be trained.
says "train yourself to be godly". Godliness is more than a decision, it must be trained.
Are you training yourself to be committed? In prayer? To church? Without training there is no victory.
Practically: set daily and weekly goals in areas that you are trying to change. At the end of the month assess yourself on your growth.

2. Our need to be apart of Teamwork
What would you rather have: a sports team with talented but selfish individuals or a cohesive selfless group? We all know the answer. We have all dreamed about being a part of a great team. Whether in sports, at school, at work or in the church. Teamwork brings victory.
Committed teamwork is one of the thing that brings about change in our world.
On our own we can be overpowered, with two we can defend ourselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken"
Ecclesiastes 4:12 NKJV
12 Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
King David had many "team-mates" working with him to be successful in his relationship with God. says that "Johnathan helped David find strength in the Lord".
- Who are your spiritual teammates?
- Are there people helping you find strength in God?
- Or are you trying to do it by yourself?
- If so, how’s it going?
If you read the story of David’s life you’ll see that he inspired much loyalty because he himself was loyal. If you want to have victory you must learn to work with people to achieve victory.
We are Part of a Team - We run the race together.
In the church, we want to make sure that we don’t come together with a “consumer” mentality - “I want everything to be the way I like it!” Instead we focus on working together for the sake of the whole body. In fact, that is the analogy that Paul uses several times in scripture. We are a body.

Be producer - To be victorious we need to be involved not standing back
Many members but one body in Christ Jesus
3. How do we function Practically?
We do our part for the sake of the team - Look in verse 14 -
2 Corinthians 2:14 NKJV
14 Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.
1 Corinthians 2:14 NKJV
14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
We need to learn to devote ourselves to doing what is good, in order that we may provide for daily necessities and not live unproductive lives. It is easy to read this and say, “I need to work so I have food and shelter.” And that is true.
Look in verse 14 - Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order that they may provide for daily necessities and not live unproductive lives. It is easy to read this and say, “I need to work so I have food and shelter.” And that is true - Paul writes to the church at Thessalonica, For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “If a man will not work, he shall not eat.” But that is not the idea of the passage. Instead it is listed in the context of providing for the daily needs of OTHERS. I like the way the NLT translates this: For our people should not have unproductive lives. They must learn to do good by helping others who have urgent needs.

Sometimes, it is easy to take our eyes off helping and focus on ourselves. We think of all that we still want and need, and so we pull back from helping others. But that was never God’s plan for us. Instead, we need to think about how we can do our part.
