INTRODUCTION:
1. Do you know the God of Peace.
9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. 9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.
A. There are three things we must do if we are going to get to know the God of Peace.
7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
1. We must pursue the things which make for peace.
19 Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another.
A. This is accomplished by showing the fruit of righteousness.
17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. 18 Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
2. Next we must put to death the things that bring the wrath of God.
1 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. 5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, 7 in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them.

A. This is accomplished by resisting the devil and drawing near to God.

7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
James 4.7-
1. Putting to death the things that bring the wrath of God is Resisting the devil.
2. Resisting the devil is fleeing from his temptations.
13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
A. Allow God to provide you a way of escape from the things we need to put to death.
5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience,
1. We are going to talk about five things that we need to put and how to put them to death in three points.
A. Flee the Love of money.
2. Uncleanness
3. Passion, Evil desire
4. Evil desire.
B. Flee sexual immorality.
5. Covetousness
C. Flee youthful lust.
3. Next week we will finish this series with—we must let our requests be made known to Him—pray to God.
2 You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. 3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.
James 4.2-3
BODY:
1. If we want to put to death the things that bring the wrath of God we must flee the love of money.
10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 11 But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.
A. Loving money will cause you to stray from the faith in greediness.
24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
1. One can not love money and serve God; therefore if one loves money he will go away sorrowful.
22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
Matt. 19.
A. If we do not flee from the love of money then we have not put to death covetousness and we serve a false god.
5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
1. Covetousness will bring the wrath of God.
6 Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience,
Col 3.
A. We need to be content with what we have and flee the love of money to know the God of peace.
5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” 6 So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”
B. This will put to death the things that bring the wrath of God and allow him to be our helper.
2. If we want to put to death the things that bring the wrath of God we must flee sexual immorality.
18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.
A. Being sexually immoral will bring the wrath of God.
4 Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.
1. If we want to get to know the God of peace we must learn to control our own body.
1 Thess 4.3-
3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; 4 that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, 5 not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God; 6 that no one should take advantage of and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also forewarned you and testified.
3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; 4 that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor,
1 Thess 4.
1 Thess 4.3-6
3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; 4 that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor,
3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; 4 that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor,
3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; 4 that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, 5 not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God; 6 that no one transgress and wrong his brother in this matter, because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as we told you beforehand and solemnly warned you.
1 Thess 4.3-
3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; 4 that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor,
1 Thess 4.3-4
A. If we will sanctify ourselves from sexual immorality we keep ourselves clean by fleeing from passions of lust and fornication.
5 not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God; 6 that no one should take advantage of and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also forewarned you and testified. 7 For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness.
1 Thess 4.5-
1. If we keep ourselves clean from sexual immorality we put to death fornication, uncleanness, and passions of lust and avoid the wrath of God.
Col 3.
5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience,
A. By doing this we can get to know the God of peace.
3. If we want to put to death the things that bring the wrath of God we must flee youthful lust.
22 Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
2 Tim
A. When we become mature we have to put away childish things.
11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
1. When it is time for us to be mature we need to be mature.
Heb 5.12
12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. 13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe.
12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. 13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. 14 But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
A. This means we need to stop acting like children who pursue youthful things in disobedience.
1 And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. 2 I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; 3 for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men?
1. We need to grow up and pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace.
.1-
22 Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
COl.
A. If we will flee youthful lust and grow up spiritually we will put to death the things that make for the wrath of God by setting our minds on the things above.
2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
Conclusion:
1. If we flee from the things that bring the wrath of God we will get to know the God of peace.
15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
