INTRODUCTION

Your topic for this morning is “annointed and appointed for the work:” But though we are; many don’t feel like it, but i want you to understand this morning that it is a journey (process) and though you may not feel like it your are anointed for the work.
John 21:15–17 ESV
When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.

TRANSITION

As we examine the theme “anointed and appointed for the work” i want us to look at the life of Jesus disciple Peter:
His Call, Commission, Crash, and subsiquent Conquest

(1) His Call - ()

Jn
John 1:41–42 ESV
He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means Christ). He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of John. You shall be called Cephas” (which means Peter).
His identity was changed - From simply Simon to
Peter - a Rock - “Firm Stable, foundation”
From Jesus first met him He called him a rock
Jeremiah 1:5 ESV
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
Illustration- Prophecy of my becoming a pastor

(2) His Commission - ()

He Recieved Revelation - (v16-17) - Hidden Things
He Recieved Position -
He Recieved Power -
Matthew 16:16–17 ESV
Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.
He Recieved Position -
He Recieved Position - Peter (gk ‘petros’) a rock / A builder - of the church thru which Jesus work.
Jesus is looking for people He can work thru. (only believe)
He Recieved Power - (v19)
Matthew 16:19 ESV
I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
The keys to the Kingdom - Authority
God equips those who He has comissioned
He empowers those He has appointed.
He recieved Revelation, Possition, and Power - But Peter wasn’t perfect
mat 16:23
Matthew 16:23 ESV
But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”
He was still growing, still maturing
He wasnt perfect but he was still Peter, Still call to be the rock the builder.
Yet Jesus said he had the wrong focus - on the things of man rather than of God.
Matthew 16:24 ESV
Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
If we are going to follow Jesus, Work for Jesus, then we must Deny Self
If your willing to deny yourself and follow Jesus jump to your feet and shout YES!

(3) His Crash - ()

He denied Christ rather than deny himself. Deny his flesh.
Many of us deny Christ in our actions. - We are not living like the rock, representing the rock.
Peter crashed because he was unwilling to deny himself.
+ Is there someone or something that you are unwilling to deny to follow Jesus?
+ Let it go
In : - The disciples followed Peter back to his old trade, back to his old Job, back to his old life. But Jesus ask him the question “Lovest thou me more than these”
Illistration: - my failling - called by sister curtis to fasting and they prayed for me and prophesied.

(4) His Conquest - ()

He stood before the same people he feared. The same people he denied Christ for, and declared the word of God. Dening himself, and glorifying Christ.
There He fulfilled his destiny in building the church.
How?
Because he was empowered by the Spirit.

CONCLUSION

Some of you may have crashed but your still called. - Jesus is the God of the second chance
Some of you may have been called but you need to be comissioned.
Some of you have been comissioned but your unwilling to deny yourself so you can be empowered to do the work.
Alter call - “There is power in the name of Jesus”
Have the persons call on the name of Jesus - (Peter when he was sinking)
