Hebrews 12:1–3 CSB
1 Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every hindrance and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, 2 keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith. For the joy that lay before him, he endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 For consider him who endured such hostility from sinners against himself, so that you won’t grow weary and give up.
We understand that we are not alone in this race.
We understand that our focus should be with Jesus.
We understand that Jesus is the source and perfecter of our faith.
But what about that large cloud of witnesses?
A witness is a one who testifies to the authenticity of something. A witness can say if something is genuine. It’s Greek word looks very similar to the English word martyr.
What running tips can I learn from them?
Hebrews is a book that has an unknown author and audience. But some things that we can tell from the book are that this audience is Jewish and they are going through some type of struggle or persecution. It is also believed in some circles that Paul is the author but that is unfounded and the writing style does not match with his. But the before the author of Hebrews writes what he is to say to this persecuted group of people in chapter 12 about the race that they are to run he gives some examples of folks included in that great cloud of witnesses. At the beginning of chapter 11 the author mentions the faith and pro running tip from Abel and in verse 5-6 we see pro running tips from Enoch. This morning we will examine verse number 7 in which he describes to the reader the pro running tip of Noah.
Hebrews 11:7 CSB
7 By faith Noah, after he was warned about what was not yet seen and motivated by godly fear, built an ark to deliver his family. By faith he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.
Reminder of what faith is for the audience.
Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Ex.: Faith is the spending of money when the income tax check comes in…
Noah was warned “…after he was warned about what was not yet seen...
The world that Noah was a part of was no different from the world we exist in today.
Genesis 6:11–13 CSB
11 Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with wickedness. 12 God saw how corrupt the earth was, for every creature had corrupted its way on the earth. 13 Then God said to Noah, “I have decided to put an end to every creature, for the earth is filled with wickedness because of them; therefore I am going to destroy them along with the earth.
How often do we listen?
How is your knowledge of eschatological events?
End time events?
Do we believe God when he speaks?
Hebrews 11:7 CSB
7 By faith Noah, after he was warned about what was not yet seen and motivated by godly fear, built an ark to deliver his family. By faith he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.
Noah’s response was reverent “...motivated by godly fear...
Noah’s response was reverent
His response to this revealing message from God was treated with respect!
He had never seen rain but he believed and knew GOD!

Noah obeyed by building an ark
Genesis 6:14–16 CSB
14 “Make yourself an ark of gopher wood. Make rooms in the ark, and cover it with pitch inside and outside. 15 This is how you are to make it: The ark will be 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high. 16 You are to make a roof, finishing the sides of the ark to within eighteen inches of the roof. You are to put a door in the side of the ark. Make it with lower, middle, and upper decks.
You notice that there are specific measurements for the ark. God has conditioned the agreement between he and Noah. God said
God: I am going to destroy everything one day because it is evil.
God: I want you to build a specific ark of salvation.
The ark did not save Noah. God did.
He did not tell Noah to put a rudder on the ark so Noah could guide them to safety. God was providing the plan and the process, Noah’s job was to trust and obey!
Ex. It’s not our job to try to control every situation and scenario thrown at us! We must… Trust and Obey!
Worth Noting: that through his trust and obedience those closest to him were saved.
If we are not actively discipling others through our trust and obedience to God we are doing more harm than good.
Can those closes to us find salvation through us?
How many of those within our inn
How many will be saved by our obedience to God?
Hebrews 11:7 CSB

Do we want to be of the world or of God?
Our condemnation of the world ought to be so visible and evident that it looks like a boat on dry land!
and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.
God states to Moses the benefits of trusting and obeying.
He will become an heir!
Genesis 6:17–18 CSB
17 “Understand that I am bringing a flood—floodwaters on the earth to destroy every creature under heaven with the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish. 18 But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark with your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives.
to become a recipient of the gift of covenant with God is a great gift!
