Atonement

Reconciliation
Made us right in The Judges eyes from wrath against sin, to adopting us as children
Change from Enmity to Friendship
Romans 3:25 AV
Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
1 John 4:10 AV
Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Propitiation the removal of wrath by the offering of a gift

The meaning of the word is simply at-one-ment, i.e., the state of being at one or being reconciled, so that atonement is reconciliation. Thus it is used to denote the effect which flows from the death of Christ.

But the word is also used to denote that by which this reconciliation is brought about, viz., the death of Christ itself; and when so used it means satisfaction, and in this sense to make an atonement for one is to make satisfaction for his offences (Ex. 32:30; Lev. 4:26; 5:16; Num. 6:11), and, as regards the person, to reconcile, to propitiate God in his behalf.

Christ saving work the satisfaction, all the work of Christ on behalf of sinners to satisfy the law and justice of God
Jesus was our substitute
to take away the barrier of sin
take away the need of justice on our behalf

Limited Atonement

Who did Christ die For? ME!
Not limited in power
Definite atonement
this is a subject that I knew was out there, but dint know much about
without studying it my opinion was against it
because of verses we all know John 3 16
1 John 2:2 AV
And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
God, Choosing those who will believe
Man, Who will or wont believe to believe/ a potential atonement that may or not happen
The atonement is unlimited
Jesus died for all And the atonement is potential, depending on choice,
Jesus died for all the sins, even the sin of unbelief. thus everyone is going to Heaven, very un-scriptural —Universalism
atonement is potential- depending on the faithfulness of the person to be committed to following Jesus. we will see in the end
Common belief
Jesus died for the sins of the whole world
We present the gospel to someone and let them know that a choice has to be made
The assumption is, that if you can just figure out the technique of getting to some emotional point, you can win anybody on the planet to Christ because, after all, He’s died for all of them
accept or reject the good news that Jesus died for their sins. and they need to accept this by faith
Break it down
Jesus died for all the sins of the whole world, including the sin of unbelief
every on in hell right now, Jesus paid for their sins, and they are also paying for their sins
there will be people in the lake of fire that the wrath of God was atoned for
Every one in Heaven, Jesus paid for their sins, they chose to believe and are in glory
Matthew 1:21 AV
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Digging Deeper

Turn to Isaiah 53
V 4 - 6 us, Who is the us
V 5 We are healed. the Whole world?, every one?
Our crimes
V 6 The Father laid on Jesus our crimes
V 10 His seed, offspring, descendants
V 11 Justify many
V 12 Numbered with the transgressors - Us. Not all of humanity
V 12 Many
If Jesus died only for the Church what about ...
1 John 2:2 AV
And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
Atonement for or sins
whole world? everybody, everybody who ever lived?
is He the atonement for Hitlers sin? people in hell?, Judas, Harod, Pharaoh?
If Jesus atoned for their sin, they would not be in hell
If the Father’s wrath is satisfied, propitiation why are they being punished?
atonement potential? on the condition that one acquires it by faith( get himself saved). still its not for everyone who ever lived
John’s World - cosmos
Entire universe, to the earth, to evil system
To a large group, to the general public
Jews, Gentiles, Human realm, non elect
To the only Elect
The world needs to be clarified

It’s Personal

Jesus did not die for all the people that ever lived
It was more intimate, Jesus came for you, died for you,
Revelation 7:9 AV
After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
Revelation 5:9 AV
And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
John 6:37 AV
All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
Because of His Great love for His Son, Before the foundation of the world the Father chose a bride for His Son
A conversation between the Father and Son....
Son, I Give to you, Linda Carter as my gift to you. to be your perfect bride.
You, (Jesus) are going to die for her, because My Justice, My wrath, has to be atoned for
Ephesians 5:25 AV
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
Jesus Gave Himself for the church not everyone
God loves the world, But he Knows the Church
I love you all, but there is only one of you, I have a special love for
Jesus on the cross had the names of His bride written on His heart
the ones that the Father gave to Him as a gift
