  • Why is there so much divorce…
  • Ever wonder?
  • We know what we are getting into…
  • Wedding welcome… dearly beloved…
  • Start with a vow…
  • I _____, take you ______, to be my wedded wife. To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness or in health, to love and to cherish 'till death do us part. And hereto I pledge you my faithfulness.
  •  Hmmmm….
    • I like better, richer, health…
    • What’s with worse, poorer and sickness?
  • We make a promise… and know there will be challenges…
  • The reward…. to love and to cherish 'till death do us part
  • Husbands live up to your part… Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her… So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself;
  • Nevertheless, each individual among you also is to love his own wife even as himself, and the wife must see to it that she respects her husband.
  •  Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
  •  The Promise… To have and to hold, from this day forward
  • The Fight… the battle between worse and better… poorer and richer… sickness and health…
  • The victory… to love and to cherish 'till death do us part… And hereto I pledge you my faithfulness.
  • The Promise… The Fight… The Victory

Biblical:

Romans 8:28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. 29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; 30 and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified. 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? 33 Who will bring a charge against God's elect? God is the one who justifies; 34 who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. 35 Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 Just as it is written, "FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE BEING PUT TO DEATH ALL DAY LONG; WE WERE CONSIDERED AS SHEEP TO BE SLAUGHTERED." 37 But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Personal:

  •  The Promise… The Fight… The Victory
  • Ever promise something….
    • Find the battle to hard to deliver?
    • Ever bailed out on a promise?
    • Promised more time to the family
    • Promise to be a more faithful witness
    • Promised to love and cherish your wife
            • Your husband
  • No Victory when we bail out…

Bridge:

  • Jesus makes a promise…. He will not break
  • We will fight a battle…. He will be our strength
  • We will have victory… He will see us glorified

The Promise… The Fight… The Victory

  • We WIN!!

Body:

The Promise

Romans 8:28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. 29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; 30 and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.

  •  (Condition of Promise rests w/ God)… Called according to His purpose
    • Divine discretion…
    • What does God love…
      • We have been called to that.
      • Ever have someone at work who just doesn’t cut it… fit in…
      • Those who are called are called for a purpose and to fulfill His purpose
      • Hebrews 7:25 Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
  •  He Foreknew
    • Just as God’s favour… that all things to work together for good to those who love God is promised to those He calls…
    • His promise is for those He foreknew…
    • It more than knowing ahead of time…
      • It is to know intimately and is even translated ‘chosen’ in the Septuagint Amos 3:2
      • Of Christ… 1 Peter 1:20 For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you
      • foreknown
      • Jeremiah 1:5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations."
  •  Predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son
    • Form of the word… Acts 2:23 this Man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death.
    • Ephesians 1:5 He predestined (predeteremined/ordained) us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will
    • If foreknowledge is intimacy and choice… predestined looks at how that intimacy and choice bear out… conformed to the image of his son!!... and declaring Him as Saviour… first born among many sons...
  •  He also called
    • 2 Timothy 1:9 (Christ) who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity,
    • 2 Thessalonians 2:13 But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth. 14 It was for this He called you through our gospel, that you may gain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
    • When we begin to ask why… why me…
    • We can look at history…
      • Why Jacob and not Esau
      • Why Israel…
      • So many whys… Ans. Salvation by Grace through Faith in Christ alone
      • We need be faithful to the calling…
      • Romans 11:29 for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.
  • He also justified
    • Romans 3:24 being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;
    • Made right in God’s sight…
    • Made pure…
  • He also glorified
    •  The Hope…
    • 2 Corinthians 4:17 For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison,
  •   The Promise…
  •  Romans 8:28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. 29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; 30 and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.

 The Fight

31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? 33 Who will bring a charge against God's elect? God is the one who justifies; 34 who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. 35 Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 Just as it is written, "FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE BEING PUT TO DEATH ALL DAY LONG; WE WERE CONSIDERED AS SHEEP TO BE SLAUGHTERED."

  • Who would challenge…
    • If God is for us, who is against us?
    • Answer? S/W
  •  He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?
    • God will provide… all things… all that matters…
  •   Who will bring a charge against God's elect? God is the one who justifies; 34 who is the one who condemns?
    • Answer…. S/W
  •  Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. 35 Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?... for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health… better or worse…
    • What’s ahead…
      • Tribulation
      • Distress
      • Persecution
      • Famine
      • Nakedness
      • Peril
      • sword
  •  The fight is certain…
    • Just as it is written, "FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE BEING PUT TO DEATH ALL DAY LONG; WE WERE CONSIDERED AS SHEEP TO BE SLAUGHTERED."
  • The ultimate human price… All of ME
  • For the ultimate divine gift… All in Him…
  •  The fight!
  •

The Victory

37 But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  • If God is for us, who is against us? It is a fight…
  • But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us
    • neither death, nor life
    • nor angels, nor principalities
    • things present, nor things to come,
    • nor powers
    • nor height, nor depth
    • will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord
  •  But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us… nothing…. Absolutely nothing will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord
  • Stop Savour….
