Read Passage

Discussion

What are some of the ways that you see how people interacted with Jesus in this passage?
Scott pointed out that Jesus set out to arrive at Mary & Martha’s house to show up at the right time that the Father has set. What are things that you do to keep yourself mindful of doing the Father’s will in and through out the day? ()
In , what are some distinctions that you see in this passage between Mary & Martha?
In , how what does Christ point out to Martha for what is occuring in her heart? Why is this important? (How does this reflect in ?)
Scott stated that, “Her service became her identity, and her work became her master.” What are some of the things that compete in your life as “master” in your own personally effected you?
Scott stated, “By Martha taking her eyes off of the Lord, she begins to become agitated at Mary and Jesus.” how do you see this play itself out in your own life? Have you ever thought about what your agitation” says about who God is in your life?
In the second part of verse 40, she actually told Jesus what to do, “Tell her then to help me.” What does this say about Martha’s view of Christ? What does this say about our view of Christ?
Scott stated, “Excellence is a way to get the greatest end, but its not the end. Its no longer then end if it takes away from Christ.” What does this statement mean to you? How do you see this play out in your own life?
Christ shares with Martha, what is the “one thing that is necessary.” How does what he states here reflect ?
Scott stated, “We serve to focus on Christ. To move everything, to do everything to know and see Christ.” How do you check your aim?
Read , Paul states that our aim should be to please God. How do you see this verse play itself out in your lives? Do you approach following Christ moralistically, or as truth and love unto the glory of God?
What are the things that distract you from making your aim Christ? (Noise, Temple, Smart phone)
Are there things that you can remove that are distracting you from Christ? (We are a collective Mary)
Lastly, when you look at the passage of Scripture, was Martha admonished for serving? (No! This is a human representation of the same argument that Luther had between Romans and James) For the glory of Christ, we are a collective Martha.
