Recap from last week. I have grown to love the book of Mark for it is like an action movie. Telling one event right after another. It begins to bring into perspective the reality of how many works Christ had really performed upon this earth.
The raging storm that Jesus calms by the power of His voice. While this still being fresh in the disciples minds then they get out of the boat and meet The man in the tombs that was frightening, scary, yet hopeless, and what the culture couldn’t fix they outcast and Jesus showed compassion and displayed great power. He wasn’t a lost cause but rather is a display of Gods grace and power that shines forth even in the lives that seem the most unrecoverable, unchangeable. What a follow up to God calming the storm by the word He spoke and then to follow with a helpless soul that God transformed. Know this morning that the God i serve is apt and able to save those who appear by cultures or even churches eyes a lost cause. There is hope and that person may be you. I pray that God would reveal to you in a mighty way this morning that your situation is beyond your ability. Your addiction is beyond your power, for you may find yourself once free but then bound to another. Your sin is beyond your ability to cleanse. You cannot, for the more you try the more the guilt and shame begin to pile up. But know this morning where man comes so short God steps in and displays His amazing grace and mighty power as we have in weeks past and this morning.
Any man that comes to a place where he recognizes his state before his creator, how he has fallen, must come before this holy God solely by faith. This strips a man of all pride, ability and self proclaimed strength to remedy his condition and humbles himself in crying out to God for the healing that only He can bring. I don’t know where you are coming from, what situations you may find yourself in but this i know that God knows and i pray that you may see and hear the truth found in Gods word about our creator that has breathed us into motion and where we stand with this God. ????

Highlight.
so now we come to this scene after Jesus’ encounter with the man in the tombs, and the city tells Jesus to leave. They then get in there in their boat and begin to travel again.
They hit land Step out of the boat and Jesus is met by Jairus one of the rulers of the synagogue.
Believed by some that this man was the leader of the synagogue.
So naturally wealth and prestige would have been in this mans life as well as power.
Yet we see him powerless and pleading.
Even the rich will have such events that come into their lives that money cant fix and power cannot remedy.
The ironic thing of this is that a ruler of the synagogue would find himself at Jesus’ feet.
up into this point you only see conflict between Jesus and the religious leaders.
Who is this man that thinks He can forgive sins? ect.
which is harder? for a man to say your sins are forgiven or to tell him to arise, take his mat and walk. SO that you may know that the son of man has the power to forgive sins arise, take up your bed and walk.
who is this that eats with the sinners and tax collectors.
He testifies to them those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick, i didn’t come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Jesus beginning to break the religious tradition of the self made righteous in regard to the sabbath.
It is unlawful to pluck grain on the sabbath.
It is unlawful to heal on the sabbath.
Is it lawful on the sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save or to kill?
They kept silent so Jesus told the man to stretch out his hand and when he did it was whole.
From this point forward the pharisees plotted together with the Herodians against Him, how they might destroy HIm.
The scribes testify that Jesus had a demon. ITs by the power of satan that He does the things he does.
And here we now see this ruler of the synagogue coming before Jesus begging him for help. This man was at the end of his rope, all other things have failed and he finds himself helpless at the feet of Jesus begging for mercy.
I wonder which event would be brought to his memory, as he lays at his daughters bedside watching her die.
I remember Jesus making this lame man walk before my eyes
I remember him testifying when asked about who he dined with, that the sick are the ones who need the physician not the well.
Or remembering the man who had the withered hand and Jesus was able to heal it.
These few among many more.
Those that often may be found as Gods biggest enemies may find themselves in an instance of all they have known to be slipping through their fingertips, out of their control, and begging for help.
This should drive the christian on to greater service to Christ even in the midst of controversy, adversity, and even persecution, for you do not know how God plans to use it in the future.
Two it doesn’t matter if you are rich, there may come a time where life knocks you off of your wealthy rocker and you come to the realization that money and power cannot fix everything. For your souls sake i pray that it happens sooner than later that it may drive you to your knees.
That you may remember Jesus’s response to this man as he agrees to go with the one who was His enemy, that Jesus may nurture and grow his faith.
On their way to Jairus house we encounter an intersesting transaction between Jesus and a poor woman who had been an outcast.
Jesus cries out who touched me?
Everyone is like what are you talking about Jesus? look around. Who isn’t touching you.
As Augustine stated “people press but faith touches.”
She said if only i could touch his garment.
This ladies infirmity is what drove her to Jesus. to reason within herself if only i could touch.
There are many things in our life that may befall us but if those things drive us to our knees in helplessness before the God of the universe praise the Lord.
Jesus knew what had happened and Jesus begins to cry out for this woman that she may come forward. This being that Jairus faith would grow, the disciples, this woman’s, and ours as well.
Can you imagine being Jairus right now. time is of the essence Jesus. Let’s go. my daughters life is on the line.
This woman was fearing and trembling.
What is Jesus going to say? I’m sure was running through her mind.
What words of compassion from the mouth of Jesus. “Daughter your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.”
It wasn’t the physicians
It wasn’t the touch that made her well.
But rather in the midst of her affliction it was her faith as puny as it was God brought her along and had compassion.
Some of us need to get real with God and see our condition as it truly is. Helpless and despicable before God. may it drive us so low that it lifts our eyes to heaven to cry out to Jesus for the help that only He can bring.
Meanwhile, while this woman is rejoicing and the crowd cannot believe what has just happened, word comes to Jairus.
Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the teacher any further?
Jesus response was, “Do not be afraid; only believe.
Only believe? Jesus this is one thing to heal by daughter but to bring her back from the dead, is a whole different kind of faith you are asking of me.
When they got into the house they saw a tumult and people weeping and wailing. Any parent that has lost a loved one knows the heart wrenching feeling that was piercing through the bodies of those here. This is never an easy process but Jesus is able to see those through who endure such hardships.
Jesus tells the crowd that She is only sleeping.
This is true of everyman that passes as the bible describes to us.
Jesus testifies when he raised Lazarus that the glory of the Lord would be shown through his life, and we see the same here this morning.
A miracle worked that Glory may be given to God that our eyes would not be drawn to our abilities, but through our inabilities to the author and perfector of our faith Jesus Christ. our creator.
That is what we are about to witness here. Glory given to God for what He can do.

Jesus has the power to resurrect life. And he does so daily. That we dwell in darkness and God in light. It says though we may be alive we are dead. And when God breathes life into you, raising you from the dead, you finally can see. You were blind but now see. You are born again with new desires and a new master that is going to start cleaning house. No longer to live for yourself but not for the one who has redeemed you. Ready to be expended at the masters call. you say it i will do it. If he gives me this day praise the Lord and if He gives me 50 more years praise the Lord.
This is freedom at its best. Not to do what i want, when i want, and how i want, but rather to finally be able to live as i should in the presence of God. able to see the vanity i once walked in and the lives I once believed.
Jesus displays his power over our infirmities and uses them for His glory.
He is the God that is able to bring the true spiritual healing that we all need this morning. He is the God that works miracles.
Take the statements given to Jairus and the woman.
Only believe.
Your faith has made you well
this may be you this morning.
It doesn’t matter your economical status. Rich or poor. It doesn’t matter the tone of your skin. For God doesn’t look at the outward appearance but at the heart.
But you must repent from where you have fallen and trust in Christ. You must believe. And by grace, through faith the powerful hand of God will save you.
Church don’t be naive this morning but i pray that these stories would swell your heart in great gratitude that you may see this was you. May this never slip your mind as you minister and grow. knowing who you were before Christ, and your helpless situation, yet experiencing Gods power that healed you, made you whole, and raised you from the dead. Never forget. May it be the cornerstone in your life that drives you to seek the riches and counsel of the word of God for your every breath.
