Who was he seeking?
Who was he seeking?
Zacchaeus
Zacchaeus
And he was seeking to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was small in stature.
Most likely he did not know
Even if he did, he probably didn’t understand
What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in that I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice,
Jesus

And when they saw it, they all grumbled, “He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.”

The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”
Praise be to God that Jesus was seeking a sinner in the opening of , and more so because He still does today.
What really happened?
What really happened?
And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham.
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
luke 19:9-10
What if we didn’t have verses 9-10?
This question is not in the text, but since we’re talking about soul salvation it is relevant and worth the asking.
A wealthy and influential man makes a claim of faith and show of piety.

How can we know if it is genuine or not?
“Speak to the people of Israel, When a man or woman commits any of the sins that people commit by breaking faith with the Lord, and that person realizes his guilt,
he shall confess his sin that he has committed. And he shall make full restitution for his wrong, adding a fifth to it and giving it to him to whom he did the wrong.
Then David’s anger was greatly kindled against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As the Lord lives, the man who has done this deserves to die,
and he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.”
2sam 12:
What might repentance look like for those who are ignorant of scripture?
Fast, Furious, and False?

As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy,
yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away.
Many desire to be assured about their loved one’s spiritual state even apart from any visible fruit.
I would never take away the hope of possibility, but we should have NO confidence apart from biblical evidence
In those cases, we ought to pray for their conversion and seek to evangelize them and see what God will do with that
Deep, Lasting, and True!
As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.”

Zacchaeus’s repentance was formed by his knowledge and familiarity with God’s law, specifically v8

Absent any visible fruit, we ought to pray for their conversion and seek to evangelize them and see what God will do with that

Praise be to God we have verses 9 and 10 to know about Zacchaeus, and the ongoing witness of God’s Spirit to be assured of our own state.
To what end?

Escape of Damnation
Escape of Damnation
Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.
Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years.

So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people,
“Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?”

Inclusion in God’s People
Inclusion in God’s People
And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham.
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
Praise be to the triune God who seeks out lost sinners, truly saves them, and gathers His People together in this age in anticipation of the great gathering in the next.
