We long for Good News
In Isaiah, the Israelites are living in slavery once again and seem to have bad news after bad news.
They were taken away from their homes and lived in Babylon in horrible conditions.
Isaiah just a normal man as a prophet he had to give bad news!
But thank God he also got to give good news.
We love Good News
WHAT'S WHAT
Deliverance for Jerusalem
Wake up, wake up, O Zion!
Clothe yourself with strength.
Put on your beautiful clothes, O holy city of Jerusalem,
for unclean and godless people will enter your gates no longer.
2 Rise from the dust, O Jerusalem.
Sit in a place of honor.
Remove the chains of slavery from your neck,
O captive daughter of Zion.
3 For this is what the Lord says:
“When I sold you into exile,
I received no payment.
Now I can redeem you
without having to pay for you.”
4 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: “Long ago my people chose to live in Egypt.
Now they are oppressed by Assyria. 5 What is this?” asks the Lord.
“Why are my people enslaved again?
Those who rule them shout in exultation.
My name is blasphemed all day long.
6 But I will reveal my name to my people, and they will come to know its power.
Then at last they will recognize that I am the one who speaks to them.”
7 How beautiful on the mountains
are the feet of the messenger who brings good news,
the good news of peace and salvation,
the news that the God of Israel reigns!
8 The watchmen shout and sing with joy,
for before their very eyes
they see the Lord returning to Jerusalem.
9 Let the ruins of Jerusalem break into joyful song,
for the Lord has comforted his people.
He has redeemed Jerusalem.
10 The Lord has demonstrated his holy power
before the eyes of all the nations.
All the ends of the earth will see
the victory of our God.
11 Get out!
Get out and leave your captivity,
where everything you touch is unclean.
Get out of there and purify yourselves,
you who carry home the sacred objects of the Lord.
12 You will not leave in a hurry,
running for your lives.
For the Lord will go ahead of you;
yes, the God of Israel will protect you from behind.
Before we get into this scripture and understand this good news we need to back up for a moment!
The nation of Isreal was in captivity in Babylon.
They were bitter with God, and even though they were disobedient to God and constantly questioning him, they wanted to get out of there.
They were not only slaves to Babylon but slaves to sin and corruption.
highlights the sin of the nation and their exile but as we move in Chapter 40 - 55 we begin to see the hope of restoration.
Isaiah was called and commissioned as a Prophet to declare to Judah and Isreal condemnation, conviction and ultimately great hope.
Isaiah brings both bad news of their current existence and Good news of the future.
Throughout Isaiah, the Israelites remain rebellious.
God knows this and is sending a servant who is filled with the spirit (Christ).
So Isaiah points them to the news of one that will come as a suffering servant to make them right with God.
Imagine, put yourself at the scene.
You and your family are Israelites removed from your hometown, in a place that is unknown to you.
You are forced to work long hard hours, and held in captivity, not able to leave even if you wanted to.
Years are passing by and you are becoming older, but your young family may have to grow up in this horrible environment.
You hear whispers of that this guy named king Cyrus from Persia is going around and defeating cities and countries.
You are hearing that he is defeating a place close to you and living in hope that Babylon itself would be defeated so that you could go free.
Then you hear through the grapevine, Cyrus is on the way!
What will happen, will he win, will he not.
Waiting for the news - What will the message be.
This is what was happening.
Then comes good News!
536 BC - Babylon was defeated they were free to go home!
Lets get back to the scripture
WOW Vs. 7 How beautiful on the feet of those who bring GOOD NEWS.
Now I have been at a pedicure place with my wife let me tell you feet are not beautiful!
I cannot imagine having to wash people's feet every day, shaving off calluses but God bless them.
In the bible they wore sandals or nothing, their feet were dirty, bruised, cut and far from beautiful and yet here, feet are called beautiful.
Thank God for those feet who carried the messenger down the mountain to share news of freedom!
Imagine the Good news to Isreal - You can go home!
you are free from physical bondage!
But this is much more than this the message is of peace and salvation, the news that the God of Israel reigns!
Jesus is coming to save!
The suffering servant Jesus will make it right!
You are also free from Spiritual bondage.

What if the battle was won and the messenger never told them, they would be waiting and waiting and would have remained in bondage!

NOW WHAT
The reality is we live in a world of bad news, a broken world.
There are people in your community, your church, your family, your work and even your home that may be living in captivity.
People who have not heard that the battle has been won!
We need to realize that we have all sinned against God and have done wrong, we need Good news of a saviour.
We need to live out what it means to be people who have witnessed the message of Good News.
Jesus is king and He has called and commissioned those who follow him to have beautiful feet and be Good News bearers.
To come over the mountain down to where those who are enslaved are and proclaim peace and salvation that God reigns.
