Loving People Speak the Truth

I Corinthians 13:6 & Ephesians 4:15

Introduction:

Fact: Some people think we are to avoid conflict at all costs. Read: Proverbs 10:10a & Ephesians 4:15

FOUR KEYS TO CONFRONTING THOSE YOU LOVE:

I. Check Your Motives.

A. Make sure you don't have the same problem. -L- Matthew 7:3-5

B. Make sure you really care. - II Corinthians 12:19; L- Proverbs 27:6

II. Plan Your Presentation.

II Corinthians 2:4

A. Plan when you'll say it. -L- Proverbs 25:12

B. Plan what you're going to say. -L- Proverbs 25:11

C. Plan how you're going to say it. -L- Proverbs 12:18

1) Say it tactfully. -L- Proverbs 16:21

2) Say it lovingly.

D. Plan to say it gently. -L- Proverbs 15:1; I Corinthians 4:14

III. Give Them Affirmation.

A. Affirm you deeply love and care for them.

B. Affirm you will pray for them.

C. Affirm you believe they can change.

IV. Risk Their Rejection.

II Corinthians 7:8-10

A. Don't fear the possible consequences. - II Timothy 1:7

B. Don't procrastinate bringing up issues. - L- Proverbs 28:23

Conclusion 3 Points of Interest:

1. God wants us to speak truth in love. -L- John 8:32

2. God doesn't want us to be afraid to speak the truth. - II Timothy 1:7

3. God wants us to love people enough to tell them about eternal life. - Acts 1:8
