Titus 2:15
“Hey… Pay Attention!!
This is Important!!”
Secular:
Life and Death teaching situations…
- How to down-shift a truck on a long mountain road…
- How to deal with a set of train-wheels…
- How to handle high-tension electrical wires…
- How to scale the chief… canoe~/kayak in white water…
· If we know… we have an obligation to teach… a moral obligation to help
· If we know we have an obligation to encourage correct behaviour
· If we know we have an obligation to correct dangerous behaviour
· And quite frankly… I don’t care if someone is pleased when I try to “save there bacon”
Biblical:
2:15 These, then, are the things you should teach.
Encourage and rebuke with all authority.
Do not let anyone despise you.

* Look at Jesus re: authority
John 7:14 Not until halfway through the Feast did Jesus go up to the temple courts and begin to teach.
15 The Jews were amazed and asked, "How did this man get such learning without having studied?" 16 Jesus answered, "My teaching is not my own.
It comes from him who sent me.
17 If anyone chooses to do God's will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.18
He who speaks on his own does so to gain honor for himself, but he who works for the honor of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.
/…For the preacher to reach the point where he no longer hinders or obstructs the text from speaking is harder work than is sometimes realized.
However, there can be no disputing that this is the task.

· Authority comes not from preaching what you want to hear… or what I want to say… but from what God wants to say…
o Book Studies
o Rarely use topical
o Faithful to the corpus of Scripture
o REAL AUTHORITY in the true meaning
2 Tim 4:3 For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine.
Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.
5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.
* Despite what you want… or what I want to say
* Teach with all authority
* By encouraging with all authority
* By rebuking in all authority
* So are you comfortable with the idea that leadership is to carry out its duties (as Titus was called to)…
* To be committed
* To be people… and especially leaders of character
* To know when and to whom to say Zip it!
* To know how to build up the body of Christ
* Last week… Understand the Grace of God and the Freedom to love, worship and honour Christ…
Are you ready for leadership dedicating to this level of love, encouragement, growth, rebuke?

3) Do not let anyone “let no one” despise you.
* If you do as instructed… 1st 2 chapter of Titus
· Upholding the truth…
· “let no one”… without exception
· Then those who turn away…
· Other doctrine….
· False prophets… disobedient…
· Deal with accordingly!!
· Titus 3:10 Warn a divisive person once, and then warn him a second time.
After that, have nothing to do with him.
11 You may be sure that such a man is warped and sinful; he is self-condemned.
· Church Discipline… never nice always with a view to restore… Come to the truth and be set free or be turned back over to this world…
· Mark13:6 Many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am he,' and will deceive many.
7 When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed.
Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.
