The Joy of Thankfulness
The Joy of Thankfulness
Philippians
But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at last your care for me has flourished again; though you surely did care, but you lacked opportunity.
But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at last your care for me has flourished again; though you surely did care, but you lacked opportunity.
Why did Paul rejoice in the Lord great?
Paul rejoiced in the Lord not because of what they gave but because of what they gave symbolized.
Paul rejoice greatly in the Lord
greatly = Megalos -
it was their care and the relationship Paul was rejoicing for and not what they gave.
What they gave was symbolic of the relationship and they love they had for him and their reuniting through love that he rejoiced in.
flourished = anathello - to restore to a state of activeness, or for a flower to blossom and flourish again! Their love for him had flourished again!

Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content:
Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
Why would Paul say he speaks not in regard to need?
Paul is using the word need in the sense of he was not in desire so that gifts would be the source of his joy. He basically said he was not in a state of desire.
Paul is speaking of desire vs requirement when you look at how he uses a similar word but differently semantically.
Paul is talking desired vs required
Paul has learned from experience or vicariously how to content no matter what state he is in!
He has learned not to put his self in a state of desire. Remember he said in
whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame—who set their mind on earthly things.
