John 1:1–5 HCSB
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 All things were created through Him, and apart from Him not one thing was created that has been created. 4 Life was in Him, and that life was the light of men. 5 That light shines in the darkness, yet the darkness did not overcome it.

Matthew 6:5–8 HCSB
5 “Whenever you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by people. I assure you: They’ve got their reward! 6 But when you pray, go into your private room, shut your door, and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. 7 When you pray, don’t babble like the idolaters, since they imagine they’ll be heard for their many words. 8 Don’t be like them, because your Father knows the things you need before you ask Him.

Matthew 6:16–18 HCSB
16 “Whenever you fast, don’t be sad-faced like the hypocrites. For they make their faces unattractive so their fasting is obvious to people. I assure you: They’ve got their reward! 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head, and wash your face, 18 so that you don’t show your fasting to people but to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
matthew 6
You are not the point.
We get hung up on the making sure no one knows we are doing a thing. That is still not the focus. We are to be disciplining ourselves to connecting to the power source that gives us strength.
Fasting here is coming out of the dedication to being in the presence of God for the connection and resetting our connection to him. Therefore Fasting here can be seen as denying anything that sets aside your purpose. Distractions from being to this world what God has called you to be.
Luke 9:51 HCSB
51 When the days were coming to a close for Him to be taken up, He determined to journey to Jerusalem.
Acts 19:21 HCSB
21 When these events were over, Paul resolved in the Spirit to pass through Macedonia and Achaia and go to Jerusalem. “After I’ve been there,” he said, “I must see Rome as well!”
We are to be different
becasue we are seen by God
Therefore whenever you:
Show Compassion :Represent God To the world.
Pray: Realate to your father
Fast. Resolve to set yourself aside for his purpose.
