The use of authority, 10:8-9

• The proper use, v. 8: 1) Edification; 2) Exercise of authority in the local church is essential to edification; 3) Authority establishes the basic pattern of Christian living: a) Connected with the church; b) Husband wife relation; c) Within the family d) Servant master pattern; e) Ordinance of man

• The improper use, v. 9: 1) Destroy and terrify; 2) This does not argue for abandoning authority

The charge of inconsistency, 10:10-11:

• The charge made, v. 10

• The refute of the charge, v. 11

The denials of Paul, 10:12-18

• This is what Paul is not doing

• This is what his opponents are doing—the sins of his opponents: 1) Their boldness was based on self-commendation, 10:12; 2) Their boldness invaded Paul’s territory, 10:13-14; 3) Their boldness was based on another man’s labors, 10:15-18
