Introduction:
Divorce in the days of Christ was an act which the man would severe the marital relationship with his wife.
The woman generally had no rights in the matter and would suffer from alienation poverty in most cases.
Jesus saw the hardship and cruelty that could result from men who’s hearts were not just.
Jesus advises that for the men of His day that the only reason for divorce would be adultery.
In earlier Jewish custom, the penalty for adultery was death but now in the Jesus’ day it is divorce.
Adultery had to be proven.
