Introduction

I think I am one of the most forgetful people I know.

So I use tools to help me remember the important things.

If Facebook didn’t tell me I might not remember Holly’s birthday.

(joke)

But am I alone?

Of course not!

Some of us may have great memories, but we still are forgetful of important things in life.

God knows this, and it was very true also of Israel to forget as well.

Forgetful Israel

Consider the forgetful Israel that God addresses in .

17 “If you say in your heart, ‘These nations are greater than I. How can I dispossess them?’ 18 you shall not be afraid of them but you shall remember what the LORD your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt, 19 the great trials that your eyes saw, the signs, the wonders, the mighty hand, and the outstretched arm, by which the LORD your God brought you out.

So will the LORD your God do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid.

They are shaking with fear in the face of a daunting enemy.

What is God’s plan?

Something crazy for them to do: No… just remember what I have done.

Have faith as you remember.

Remembering Helps...

Remembering helps us conquer fear.

What are your fears?

God can help, remember all that he has done.

Just as the Israelites needed to conquer their fear, God says remember, we too need to do the same.

Remembering helps fuel our worship of God as well.

gives great example as to us remembering the good deeds of God as we sing out to Him.

3  Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised,

and his greatness is unsearchable.

4  One generation shall commend your works to another,

and shall declare your mighty acts.

5  On the glorious splendor of your majesty,

and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.

And of all the things we should remember is the death burial and resurrection of Christ as most significant.

Paul reminds the Corinthians of this in .

23 For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you.

Do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood.

Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

Thankfully we are reminded each first day of the week of the most important thing in our lives.

And we should do our best to remember that sacrifice daily as we live our lives.
