Jesus Christ - a better priestly ministry - a better new covenant
“Better” “Best” is for the most part subjective.
At no time is that more obvious than when we attempt to weigh advertising claim.
Most manufacturers of 1/2 ton pickups affirm that their product is best in class in 2 or 3 areas.
But as we all know those claims can only be affirmed when we read the small print and calibrate according to the conditions under which the vehicle will be used most of the time.
Being subjective, “better” can indeed be better for different subsets at different times in different circumstances.
Seldom does one size fit all.
Where we shop - what offers the best quality and value?
Is there a “better” “best” that is best for all who will recognize what is better/best for for them, for all of them?
Having explained that Jesus Christ was better than the angels, better than Moses, better in the rest that He offered, Jesus Christ was also a better forever High Priest who was better than Melchizedek.
Integral to all of these was the better new covenant that He mediated.
By way of summary,
We have such a high priest - 8:1-6
Seated at the right hand of the majesty on high - 8:1
A minister in holy places - 8:2
The sacrifice offered - 8:3
The copy and shadow versus heavenly things - 8:-5
Obtained a more excellent ministry mediating a better covenant with better promises - 8:6
