What are 3 reasons for spiritual gifts?

7 Spiritual gifts (motivations) in
The gifts of practical ministry are caring for the needy
Prophecy - Declaring Truth
Service - Serving other and or the ministry
Teaching - The ability to make other understand
Exhorting - Encouraging others
Giving - You are a giver
Administation -management
Mercy - Empathy towards others.
Tonight lets look at Service, Teaching, and Exhorting.

Service

Romans 12:6–7 NASB95
6 Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith; 7 if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching;
If service, or ministering
Serice here is the word, “diakonia” meaning religious service or work in a church or temple.
That why some translations use the work minister.
The word also speak of table work or preparation or even to wait upon.
Some translations say, hospitality.
Often we don’t see service as a gift our ministry because it is not as flashy as the other.
Most of the time the service person sits in the background while the other wash jesus feet with their hair.
So it has to be a gift, the desire to serve without the necessity of attention and recognition.
Harper’s Bible dictionary says this about service. service, in the Bible, normally something to be done by a slave.
Paul, Timothy, James, Peter, and Jude all describe themselves as “bondservants (or slaves) of Christ.”

Characteristics of the gift of service

Those with the gift of service free others to achieve.
The ability to recall specific likes and dislikes of people.
3. Those with the gift of service have no regard for weariness.
4. Willingness to use personal fund to avoid delay.
5. Those with the gift of service have difficulty saying no.

Negatives.

may be critical of other that don’t respond with the same urgency.

Teaching

“In his teaching” indicates the realm of ministry.

Characteristics of the gift of Teaching

An emphasis on the accuracy of words.
motivation is to confirm that the statements are true, so that he (and others) can rely on them.
Delights in research in order to validate truth
a greater joy in researching truth than presenting it.
especially alert to and wary of false teachers.

Negatives

1. Becomes proud of knowledge
2. Uses knowledge to demean or belittle others.

Exhorting

8 or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

exhort in the greek means, to call aside: to ask to come and be present where the speaker is, call to one’s side. to urge strongly, appeal to, urge, exhort, encourage and to instill someone with courage or cheer, comfort, encourage, cheer up.

The dictionary defines exhort, to strongly encourage or urge (someone) to do something.
this is why the church is so important and this gift really is a gift to the church

Again, “in his exhortation” points to the ministry.

Characteristics of the gift of Exhorter

1. willingness and eager to come alongside a brother or sister in Christ during difficult circumstances.
2. extremely practical in advice and suggestions
3. An enjoyment of following directions
4. responds to problems by prescribing specific steps of action
5. regard trials as opportunities for growth

Negatives

1. They can easily oversimplify solutions
2. May tend to be over confident.
