Series: Unshaken: Fear, Anxiety, and Peace
Key Verse:
We demolish arguments 5 and every proud thing that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ.
Key Points:
Demolish Pride
Every Thought Obeys Christ
Words to Know:
Fear = Anxiety = Worry = Stress
Peace
1. Destroy Pride
PRIDE
: A reasonable or justifiable self-respect
: or improper and excessive self-esteem known as conceit or arrogance.
TOP 3 FEARS OF TEENS
Fear of the Future
Fear of Failure
Fear of Loneliness
As our Key Verse states: “we demolish arguments and every proud thing...”
Arguments = reasoning, imaginations, thoughts
Anxiety starts with me (actually “i)
Right in the middle of the word anxiety is the letter “i”
The anxiety that you feel in your life is always going to be controlled by what you have allowed in your life
Causes of Anxiety
Check out Jesus’ words in :25-34 (Sermon on the Mount)
Can any one of you be worrying add a single hour to your life?
all of the fear
all of the worrying
all of the stress
can it add a single hour to your life?
I think it is safe to say that it will be taking hours away from your life!

Solomon’s Anxiety
: was undisputedly the richest and wisest king in history
Even in his wealth and honor and riches, Solomon was still plagued by worry and anxiety and still wasn’t satisfied with life.
He wrote all about it in Ecclesiastes!
2. Seek God’s Kingdom, Not My Kingdom
Looking at the top three fears of teens: future, failure, loneliness - those all revolve around who?
- - - YOU - - -
Let’s be honest, if our future, ability to fail, and who we spend our time with were left completely up to us — that is something to stress about.
But in these last two verses, Jesus tells us that if we simply seek God’s kingdom first, that all the other stuff would be taken care of.
our parents influence these things
Does that mean you’ll have the riches that you want?
Maybe!
Maybe it’s God’s desire for you to have the riches to further His kingdom
our friends influence
Does that mean you get to go to the college that you want to?
our siblings
Maybe, Maybe Not!
our teachers
Until we have laid aside our pride (meaning we are more concerned about what God wants that ourselves), we will never know what the best for our life will be!
There is a lot that goes into influencing
3. Humility Builds You Up
1 Peter 5:6
what is interesting here is that one verse earlier in Paul says, “You, who are younger ones...” - meaning, he wrote this part for YOU!
1. Humble Yourself
2. Cast Your Cares on God
Spurgeon used the illustration of a man who came to move your furniture, but he carried a huge and heavy backpack of his own.
He complains that he finds it difficult to do the job of moving your furniture; would you not suggest that he would find it easier if he laid his own burden aside so that he could carry yours?
In the same way, we cannot do God’s work when we are weighed down by our own burdens and worries.
Cast them upon Him, and then take up the Lord’s burden—which is light burden, and a yoke that fits us perfectly.

3. Sober Minded - Have a Clear Mind
we aren’t distracting ourselves with mindless activities or coping mechanisms
Coping Mechanisms:
isolate yourself
use caffeine, drugs, alcohol to numb or ignore the pain
try and take it all on yourself
snack/eat away the pain
binge on media or social media
4. Be Watchful - Be on the offense!
Healthy Cures:
eat a healthy diet (make your mind physically sharp)
exercise
tech break
social media break (one of the top causes of anxiety today)
spend quality face-to-face time with someone
talk to someone (teacher, counselor, leader, pastor, parents)
5. Recognize You’re Not The Only One (Humility Again)
there are others in the world that are struggling
again, how can you help them if you aren’t healthy yourself?
6.
There Will Be Some Hardship
