This Week - Growth in the Son
“Doctrine is not enough. No other generation has had the clarity of doctrine and theology that this generation has. There are more Bible colleges and seminaries in the world today than there have ever been throughout the history of the church. We know doctrine. We can quote doctrine. The problem is that our doctrine is just an academic things. Our doctrine is just an appendage on our Christianity.” A. W. TOZER (1897-1963); God’s Power for Your Life
This book was printed in 2013 from a never published work or Tozer’s
yet he would have been speaking of a generation that is passing away…
never before have we been able to gather so much information about the Bible and faith
we can have the bible read to us by our phones that we carry with us anywhere we want to go
In a world, where we have all this access and all of this knowledge, what is it that limits us and our knowledge of God
Some will say that it is Satan
We love to blame him… He does cause a lot of trouble
11 We have a great deal to say about this, and it is difficult to explain, since you have become too lazy to understand. 12 Although by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the basic principles of God’s revelation again. You need milk, not solid food. 13 Now everyone who lives on milk is inexperienced with the message about righteousness, because he is an infant. 14 But solid food is for the mature—for those whose senses have been trained to distinguish between good and evil.
Satan only distracts you with the things that you desire in the first place
I wish we were not so busy… Nobody forces you to go as much as you do
We are fortunate enough to live in a country and even in a section of it, that it is easy to be a Christian.
we are not persecuted… I do not care what some of the things you hear or read, we are not persecuted
We have access to the word of God being preached, anytime that we want to pull it up
We have access to God’s word physically, electronically without cost
yet if you look at statistics, we are spiritually, theologically ignorant

Lackadaisical Faith

Lackadaisical is a word that you do not use very often
I used it more coaching than anywhere else
This book was printed in 2013 from a never published work or Tozer’s
I would get on kids for lackadaisical passes
or lollygaggers....
yet he would have been speaking of a generation that is passing away…
Lazy - one can sound nice, the other sounds like an insult
never before have we been able to gather so much information about the Bible and faith
Western Kansas People are known in different places, as hard workers
Lazy is an insult…
we can have the bible read to us by our phones that we carry with us anywhere we want to go
In a world, where we have all this access and all of this knowledge, what is it that limits us and our knowledge of God

If we don’t do this, the kids will miss out…
we are not persecuted… I do not care what some of the things you hear or read, we are not persecuted
We have access to the word of God being preached, anytime that we want to pull it up
We have access to God’s word physically, electronically without cost
yet if you look at statistics, we are spiritually, theologically ignorant
We have a great deal to say about this, (He had been teaching on Jesus’ position as High Priest in the order of Melchizedek) and it is difficult to explain, since you have become too lazy to understand.
Take note… The concept itself is not what the writer says is difficult
and it is not difficult to understand
Scripture can be hard to understand
Also, regard the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our dear brother Paul has written to you according to the wisdom given to him. 16 He speaks about these things in all his letters. There are some matters that are hard to understand. The untaught and unstable will twist them to their own destruction, as they also do with the rest of the Scriptures.
I am not diminishing the work of the Holy Spirit either… I acknowledge that the Holy Spirit must speak to each person as the read to give understanding
there are scriptures and concepts that are difficult to understand, this is not one of them, or should not be one of them for those that he is writing too.

those who have ears let them hear… are your spiritual ears open?
Our lackadaisical faith prevents us from understanding God’s word
I am not diminishing the work of the Holy Spirit either… I acknowledge that the Holy Spirit must speak to each person as the read to give understanding
We remain so spiritually immature that we do not understand the things of God
Not all things are easy to understand, the Bible says that about itself
I am not diminishing the work of the Holy Spirit either… I acknowledge that the Holy Spirit must speak to each person as the read to give understanding
those who have ears let them hear… are your spiritual ears open?

But we use the difficulty of scripture as an excuse to remain immature
There are so many that have been asked to be teachers…
not just a problem in this church, it is everywhere
response a lot of the time is… I do not know enough
never to be followed up with, “will you teach me?” or “How can I learn more?”
Why? Because that is our excuse… as to why we can’t do something perceived as extra
when in reality it is what those who are a part of the church, should be doing
Scripture is clear, we are to come to church to fellowship with others and serve others… not to be served
this flies directly in the face of our consumerism christianity in this world
I am not being fed there…
This is what this church offers me here…
Our laziness is sinful…
The writer says, “You have become too lazy to understand.”
I am not even speaking about time or priorities…
as in our priority in Life should be God or studying his word
the author here does not say that, because it doesn’t need to be said.
Relationship with God, going to church, reading the word, studying with a small group are all seen as optional
Not God’s plan for your walk
God did has not designed the church to operate by 10% of the people putting in 90% of the work,
Nationwide, church giving is down, church attendance is down,
God’s plan was for you to serve and sacrifice, to encourage fellow believers, as a testimony to the lost, and most importantly, worship of him.

Lackadaisical Leadership

A church satisfied with no growth
it means the leaders in the church see it as a business only and if the profits are not going to be there they might as well cut their losses.
we see churches that simply do not try to reach and serve their community, but see how long they can keep the lights on
I have heard of churches, talked to Pastors that tell me the leadership teams say these things, while not tithing to their own church themselves
Although by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the basic principles of God’s revelation again. You need milk, not solid food. 13 Now everyone who lives on milk is inexperienced with the message about righteousness, because he is an infant.
You ought to be teachers… this is an interesting word
does not mean with a class…
it does most often used in the NT to describe Jesus by his disciples
so not that you need to preach or be a Sunday School teacher,
but that you should be discipling somebody
no church growth
in spiritual walk
nobody grows in their walk with the Lord, you know the Lord no more than the stories you heard about them as a kid
eventually, you wonder what kind of power that kind of faith has in your life and the faith moves down on the priority list
in number
we do not take attendance here… but that doesn’t mean that the amount of people are not important
does God care about numbers… he wrote an entire book that he titled… NUMBERS.
the more people that come, the more people that can hear the gospel of Jesus
no generational growth
having grandparents seeing grandchildren grow in christ not attend church
One of the great joys in my life right now is seeing my daughter and her husband raise their son up in the Lord
praying with him every night, reading him stories at this age even about who Jesus is
it makes me believe even more in the power of God, because
we will not say, they need to get back to church, but they need Jesus
no growth in society
answer to the problems that we have as a society will not be answered by an election

Longing for Meat

I have beat you up pretty good… but I do not want to leave you there
what is it that your heart is truly longing for?
Why do you come to church?
hear a message to make you feel better about your week? I have screwed that up for you
see people? is this just a social club?
But solid food is for the mature—for those whose senses have been trained to distinguish between good and evil.
there is nothing wrong with milk… There is not a baby alive that should be ashamed that they are drinking milk
but a teenager still living on their mother’s milk is not a healthy person
To know good from evil
to know the things of God from the things of Satan
you would think that they are very different right
Satan disguises himself as an angel of light
Basics of faith are a foundation, not forgotten
a good study… go on to the first three verses of chapter 6 the writer states that the basics of our faith are not to be learned and forgotten
built upon like mathematics in school
Spiritual maturity is not achieved alone
God has designed and commanded believers to help each other through this life
study together in small groups
disciple each other
