INTRODUCTION:
1. Our biggest motivator in this life as to why we should serve God should be love.
A. We should love Him because He loves us.
1 Jn 4:
19 We love Him because He first loved us.
Body:
1.God demonstrates His love for us in the sending of His son to die for us.
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
A. This demonstration began when He sent forth His son at the appropriate time to redeem us.
4 But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.
Gal. 4.4
4 But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,
1. When Jesus came to earth He humbled himself.
Phil 2.5-
5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
2. Thou He was a Son He learned obedience.
8 though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered.
2. God loves us even when we don’t love Him.
21 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled
21 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled 22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight—23 if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.
Col 1.21
A. Sin separates us from God.
1 Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, That it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy, That it cannot hear. 2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear.
1. He loves us even when we are separated from Him.
11 Say to them: ‘As I live,’ says the Lord God, ‘I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why should you die, O house of Israel?’
9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
A. He loves us even when He is disciplining us trying to restore us to repentance.
6 For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.”
3. God loves us even when we don’t love ourselves.
6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.
7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
A. Sometimes we may think that we are beyond God loving us.
1 Pt 6-10
1. God loved Peter even though he deny Him three times.
34 Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you that this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”
B. No matter our sin God can use us because He loves us.
1.
2. God loved Saul of Tarsus even thou he was a murderer.
20 And when the blood of Your martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by consenting to his death, and guarding the clothes of those who were killing him.’
B. No matter our sin God can use us because He loves us.
1. Peter the apostle who preached the first gospel sermon and authored two books of the New Testament.
Paul the apostle wrote 13 New Testament Books.
C. How will God use us for the kingdom?
4. God loves us even when we are suffering.
3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
James 1.3-
A. Sometimes when we are suffering it can be hard to understand that God still loves us.
19 But my enemies are vigorous, and they are strong; And those who hate me wrongfully have multiplied. 20 Those also who render evil for good, They are my adversaries, because I follow what is good. 21 Do not forsake me, O Lord; O my God, be not far from me!
Ps 38.
1. Suffering can have a purpose.
1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope.
ROm 5
A. God is never ever going to leave us nor forsake us.
5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
CONCLUSION:
1. These things should motivate us to loving Him back.
15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments.
