Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, 21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

I. Redemption

Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
The word “redeemed” means a ransom paid to free someone.
Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
Transition: When we think of paying a ransom, we think of money, but…this was not the case for Salvation:

1. Not by Money

Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
If salvation was by money, some could not afford it...
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. 24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

2. Not by Tradition

Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
No Ceremonies, Rituals, Traditions
Rituals
Not by Religion
Religion
Not by Good Works

There are different Motives that people have for their Traditions

Not by
To earn Favor
To stay in Favor
To feel good about themselves - vain
To help
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

3. By the Blood

But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

The Sacrifice was Pure

But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:
The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

The Sacrifice was Planned - not an accident

Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
Exploring the Epistles of Peter: An Expository Commentary a. As to the past Purpose of God (1:20a)

It was, thus, “foreordained before the foundation of the world” that, when the fullness of the time was come, God the Son would enter into human life. He would become the Babe of Bethlehem and then, in due time, the Lamb of Calvary. Our redemption was no afterthought with God. It was part of a plan.

Thank God he has a plan, and that plan is recorded in His Word!

II. Resurrection

Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
The resurrection is essential to our Salvation!
The Gospel is not merely the DEATH of Christ, it is the death, burial, and resurrection.

1. By God

Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:
It had to be by “him”, he was the only one that could do it!

2. For His Glory

Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

3. For our Faith

Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
Jesus became the object of our faith
For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
