Introduction

2 Peter 1:12 NKJV
12 For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth.

2 Peter 1:13 NKJV
13 Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you,
2 Peter 2
Amnesia is distressing. Sufferers forget what they have done, what they were doing before being interrupted, and what they were about to do. Everyone has mild memory lapses, but clinically severe lapses cause crises of identity. Patients can even cease to know who, what and where they are. In his letter, Peter challenges his readers with having appallingly bad memories. They are forgetting what they have been told about the past and the future, and that is attacking the very root of their identity as Christians in the present. Before they can hear this message, he has to convince them that their memory, or rather their lack of memory, is a problem.

2peter1:

I. Reminder is needed.

2 Peter 1:12 NKJV
12 For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth.

Reminder can be defined as : something that calls a memory or thought to the mind; something (such as a note or notification) designed to prompt or aid the memory.
It is bringing back to the memory that truth which has been forgotten, or at which people refuse to look, or whose meaning they have not fully appreciated.
Peter is encouraging the believers that even though they are faced and will continue to be challenge false teachings be reminded who you are and who’s you are. Renember where the Lord has brought you from.
Barclay, W. (2003). The Letters of James and Peter (3rd ed. fully rev. and updated, p. 355). Louisville, KY; London: Westminster John Knox Press.
August 28th 1955, 14 year old Emmitt Til was murdered for allegedly whistling at a Caucasian woman.
September 15th 1963 a bomb explodes during Sunday Morning Service in 1963 in the 16th street baptist church in Birmingham , Alabama killing for young African American girls
Peter is encouraging the believers that even though they are faced and will continue to be challenge false teachings be reminded who you are and who’s you are. Remember where the Lord has brought you from.
Appreciate that the corporate memory within Israel plays an important teaching role. The weekly sabbath was given them by God so that they would ‘remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the Lord your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the Lord your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.’ There was no danger of the story being lost for ever, of course, but it was a weekly duty to bring it to mind so that they would always think about what it meant to be saved.
Why did Peter want to go on reminding people of these things, when he says that they know them and are already established in the presence of the truth? Perhaps the reason was that he wanted them to turn their head knowledge into practical action and maintain the truth which they knew they had, in order to escape being led away from the purity and simplicity of their faith by teachers of heresy, of whom he has a good deal to say in the course of his letter
The same was true for the passover meal: the Israelites were to celebrate it annually ‘so that all the days of your life you may remember the time of your departure from Egypt’.5 It was important to go back and teach one another the basic truths of their deliverance.

Be reminded of God’s Extraordinary/above human capabilities.
Psalm 105:5 NKJV
5 Remember His marvelous works which He has done, His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,
Psalam
Our minds tend to remember the foolish and evil, but David states here to Remember.be reminded of his marvelous works.
When you are reminded of the marvelous works of Christ our faith becomes stronger, our love becomes more intense, devotion and prayers will be sincere, attentiveness to the needs of others would be high.
Men of God, We should always be wary, then, of people who arrive with a new or different Christian message, and look out for the danger sign that Peter’s basic lesson is being sidetracked in favour of a more attractive or ‘relevant’ message. Those who teach the Bible have a great responsibility here, because there will always be a temptation to hold people’s attention with something new. We have to be humble enough to recognize that we are not creators of the Christian message. The task—the vital task—is to keep reminding people of it.

Ps 100
Psalm 100:4–5 NKJV
4 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. 5 For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.

II. Recognize your stance/belief.

2 Peter 1:12 NKJV
12 For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth.

Peter is going to go on to uncompromising rebuke and warning; but he begins with something very like a compliment. He says that his people already possess the truth and are firmly established in it.

The minister must labour neither for praise nor for purse, but for conscience; he must fish for souls, not for riches. There are too many that seek the Church goods rather than the Church’s good.

Romans 15:14–15 NKJV
14 Now I myself am confident concerning you, my brethren, that you also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another. 15 Nevertheless, brethren, I have written more boldly to you on some points, as reminding you, because of the grace given to me by God,

The higher a man rises, the more Satan desires to sift him. 1. The natural tendency of fallen nature. 2. The many and urgent temptations to leave even what we know.

III. A JUDICIOUS PRECAUTION. “I will … put you always in remembrance.” 1. The necessity for this course ought to reconcile us to the constant repetition of even the most elementary truths of religion. 2. Christianity consists of two parts—faith and practice. Both are easily forgotten or neglected. Other things absorb the mind.

Rom15
Because only as truths live within the mind can they be influential on the heart and conduct.

III.Reality

When are continually reminded of them do they gain this life within us. It is not enough to have received truths, we must feel them. We are living daily in a world of sense; we need to be transferred continually into the world of spirit. We see around us the vanities of time; we need to have heaven opened to our gaze, that we may behold the grand realities of eternity.

III.Reality must still exist.

2 Peter 1:12 NKJV
12 For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth.
-Reality can be defined as : a real event, entity, or state of affairs, the totality of real things and events.

no matter how close to the Lord we have been as Christians, or how long-standing our Christian commitment, or how central our position in the fellowship, that danger of wobbling still remains, and we should check ourselves constantly for the tell-tale signs.

- The word translated ‘strengthen’ in the gospel is the word translated firmly established here (stērizō).
to turn in resolutely in a certain direction, to confirm, stablish, to stablish the source from within

One of the greatest miracles of all-time is you! You know what you were doing, i know what i was doing, You know how you were talking, We know how we were responding, People counted us , but God counted us in.

Are they especially flawed as Christians to have come so far only to need to be reminded? Not at all! Returning continually to the core truths of Christianity is part of a growing Christian self-understanding. This is poignantly underlined in Peter’s own growth as a disciple. He promised faithfully that he would follow Jesus to prison and to death. But Jesus knew him better, and said that even he would find it impossible to stay loyal when the Roman troops came. Jesus said that he had prayed for Peter, however, and promised that when the nightmare was over Peter was to ‘strengthen’ the other disciples

James 5:8 NKJV
8 You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.
1 Peter 5:10 NKJV
10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.
In the Present Truth
Present truth:
jas
Present truth:
I. The gospel speaks of a present reconciliation of God to man.
II. Christians have a present life in Christ.
III. Present reconciliation in the present life means present confession.
IV. We have a present heaven. (A. J. Gordon, D.D.) Shortly I must put off this my tabernacle.
1 Peter 3:18 NKJV

Because He is grounded in the, He stopped by my and your house/ church to pick up your sins and my sins. He picked up the cross and marched to Calvary. Jesus voluntarily laid down his life to die for us by death of the Cross. Jesus Charged them when said if I be lifted up I will draw all men unto me. Jesus reached down and got man by hand and reached up and got God by and said it is Finished. He locked his head in shoulders, gave up the Ghost and died. Jesus was buried in a borrowed tomb.
