Intro

synopsis
Jesus knows her - He knows all of us as well
vs.15 She was desperate for anything good in life, anything better than her current situation
vs.26 “I am he”

vs.28-30

This woman has experienced Jesus and is now forever changed
1. Story starts with her needing water her excitement for Jesus caused her to abandon her jar
What are you dropping for your excitement for the Lord?
Jar of water was unnecessary in light of the living water Jesus has provided
Jesus is worth dropping everything ()
Is he worth it to you?
2. She rushed into town to tell everyone about the revelation that just occured in her life even though she was an outcast
went to well lonely in the heat of the day
Her excitement for Jesus sent her into the heart of where she would not normally go (Romans 1:16)
Jesus’ actions of approaching & talking to her - traveling through Samaria - are radical & counter-cultural
The samaritan woman adopts the same approach (her past, talking to men, boldness to speak out on this subject)
To be a follower of Jesus requires a life of being different (counter-cultural of the secular world)
3. In vs.25 she is aware that there is a Messiah, but doesn’t even fully understand that he is right in front of her; in vs.30 she now gets it
English language doesn’t do the Greek justice sometimes
The Greek grammatical structure of this question shows that she was asking in a way that people would come & see Jesus & judge for themselves
She understood that her opinion would be meaningless to them.
It wasn’t her duty to use her opinion to save people
She went and told people about Jesus and let Jesus do his part
Our task is not save people, but to be a vessel for the Gospel (1 Corinthians 1:17)
Just be excited for who Jesus is & what He has done in your life & tell others about it
When one is gripped by Jesus, it’s impossible to keep quiet
We easily get excited & can’t keep quiet about sports & other major events

vs.31-35

the disciples show their spiritual immaturity & it prohibited them from seeing the spiritual reality of this situation.
They could not transfer their focus from earthly to the heavenly
Don’t let earthly things distract you from telling your story of what Jesus hasd done in your life

vs.39-42

we see the the mighty power of God and how it can work when we will just be obedient and faithful
read vs 39-42
vs. 42 is our goal
Jesus gives us the ultimate example

That people will not just believe in God or what we say about God
vs.34&35 - the harvest comes to fruition (vs.30)
BUT that they will get to truly experience God & declare for themselves that “[He] is indeed the Savior of the world.”
He was friendly
He asked questions
for this to happen though, we must be obedient disciples
He showed concern for human need
Like the Samaritan woman, we must have excitement & zeal for what God has done in our lives and introduce lost people to this Jesus\

Lastly

Jesus gives us the ultimate example of how to witness/evangelize in this entire chapter

vs.34&35 - the harvest comes to fruition (vs.30)
He faithfully explained the scriptures
He was friendly
He asked questions
He showed concern for human need
He emphasized the good news for thirsty people
He faithfully explained the scriptures
He emphasized the good news for thirsty people
The harvest is plentiful everyday.
Everyday we pass lost people who need us to just tell them about Jesus
We need to be excited for Jesus- who he is and what he has done
