• It was flagrant

• It was internal

• It was incestuous

• He only addresses the man—probably because he was the believer and she was not: The issue is not the purity of the unbeliever but rather the purity of the church

Observations

• The sin involved was not one of human weakness but of defiance

• The procedure Paul recommends is not one to apply to most cases of immorality

• As severe as the judgment is—a time of restoration will come

*The church maintains its purity through the teaching of the Word of God

The indifference rebuked—5:2

• The attitude present

• The attitude needed

The action needed—5:3-5 Two things that warrant action . . .

• Paul’s judgment

• Christ’s name: 1) Take action on his behalf; 2) It involves corporation action; 3) Do it in cooperation with the power of the Lord Jesus

The nature of the action

• Deliver to Satan

In Chapter 5 he tells them 4 things to do

1. Be taken from you—v. 2

2. Deliver to Satan—v. 5

3. Do not keep company or even eat with him—v. 11

4. Put away—v. 13

Question—are there 4 actions or just one thing explained 4 ways?
