The right as you're making your way to Genesis chapter 48, I want you to make a pit. Stop towards the end of your Bible in Hebrews chapter 11. I know it's a little bit of a detour in Genesis close to the back of the Bible Hebrews Hebrews to the Hebrew Christians there that were facing such persecution as they were looked at this moment as the one Hebrews chapter 11 and verse number 21. We read these words together by Jacob when he was a dying. Does Genesis 48 and 49 and 50 right where we are in our studies? How was it? It was Jacob a dime blast. Both bones of Joseph worshipped leaning upon a top of his staff Lord. I pray that you would help us to understand that our life is but a vapor and that one day if you tear your coming as we continue to grow older we to I will come to the end like Jacob is here, but father may we understand the faith that he hasn't made that impact us to know that even absent from the body and present with you. There is something that we can do Here and Now by Faith Lord observing your hand in our life to be able to pass on the Baton of faith and pass the torch. Faith to the next in the following Generations would I pray that you would stir our hearts tonight to be concern for what's happening around us and to be actively involved in passing the space that you have shown us from your word on to those that need it. Most Lord. I pray that you might even change someone's family tree tonight as we consider your word and how powerful it is father. I pray your blessing upon this time of your word in Jesus name. Amen. Mm and round that race course, I remember I was in college at that time. And yes, everybody was focusing on Lance Armstrong and all of the stuff that was going on about maybe you remember the headlines. I won't give away. You can look it up if you want to and Google it you'll find out he was in some trouble at that time strong who ended up with his fifth consecutive victory. There was an hour-long celebration of the events history and past winners of road by the cheering crowd sound. So maybe you didn't pick up on all that was going on because of everything they got drowned out with what was going around Lance Lance Armstrong according to one article just before the parade began an older man on a bionic bicycle statutes one over and over by the Armory if you like they used to make back in the day. And so this this older man was on this ancient bicycle and he was to ride at the head of the parade and right next to him.

Modern bike and this was to symbolize a sort of passing of the torch. If you will from one generation of cyclists to the next and one photograph even showed the two Riders as they were waiting for the signal to begin the parade. The older man is Jimmy resting his hand on the child's shoulder as if he's going to encourage him. And so as we look at Genesis chapter number 48 tonight, I want you to have that kind of in your mind and he is not ready to throw in the towel on what the Lord has promised to his granddad. And so this really is a momentous time to to memorialize 4849. So here you have the grandson. Passing Faith to his grandchildren. Abraham's grandson now blessing Joseph's children eat free room and Manasseh passing it on to that generation. And so in between was Isaac going in between was Joseph Wright and 8th and Abraham was the father of the father of faith and we are spiritual blessings that we have in Christ the filling in a dwelling the Holy Spirit and we are looking forward to that day when God will make him come true and Israel will receive the physical blessings of having them from the Nile to the Euphrates and that whole track to ride on the coattails of spiritual giant since we consider tickets words tonight. I trust that they will resonate with you and they will read That you'll understand God has a place in your life where you can impact someone else for the faith and what God has promised in his word though. We understand the distinction between the nation of Israel and the Church of Jesus Christ of which we are apart of in that a person is real distinction there and I don't believe in grace and one day everything that God prophesied about Israel's return to the land will be consummated understanding.

Buses to Israel haski not make promises to us as followers of Jesus Christ as Israel. Look for the promised land and Jacob was even here do we not look for? A city whose Builder and maker is God do we not press on towards the prize for the high calling in Christ, Jesus. Do we not also try to yes, and we look forward to the promises that God has made to us. So without completing the two and wanting up as a covenant the alogent we look at them and see that there's application application to be made not interpretation. The church is not replaced this real but the application comes to us because as we see Jacob exercising and impacting his grandchildren that was given to me from my granddad and maybe you don't have that kind of Legacy. Well, there's no better time to start than now and you can pass that Legacy of faith that goes all the way back to the Garden God for you to take that face even now and open the door. Learned that face the face that was once delivered under the same states that unifies. It's all here tonight around and revolves around the work of Jesus Christ on Calvary Old Testament and New Testament both complimenting and completing each other for the final and full revelation of our God to us our creator who made us to worship him to have pleasure with us in fellowship with us and all those promises that we read in the iris through Christ, which strengthen it does and so is we think about passing the torch sometimes the torch is passed intentionally, sometimes it's past voluntarily sometimes a torch can be forcefully taken sometimes the passing will it happens without much thought the natural cycle of the passing happens in families. The passing happens in business. Churches and members of all generations need Godly wisdom as they play out the drama if you will of changing roles changing passing that torch and knowing that one day others will stand where we stand now and we pray and trust that they will stand on the same board exam the same Foundation that we still on for generations to come. So while Jacob was passing the torch of his faith to his grandchildren. He gave them an inheritance of God's promises. One of the best things that you can leave for those coming behind you is the word of God and the promises of this book. We always want to think about leaving an inheritance to our children's children. And that means we need to have a lot of money in the bank to give them right Hey, can I tell you that one of the most precious things that you can give to your family right here a legacy of Faith? There's no greater inheritance than the word of God to be able to see them have that in their life the best inheritance we can leave to our children's children to pass on the face of God's word and I hope to be able to stir you up a little bit tonight in our life, but a vapor recorded the number for I hope you'll have a have enough of a heart to desire to be involved in somebody's wife that it just might change their family tree as you pass Faith the faith once delivered onto them leaving a legacy include some things it includes what I see from Jacob acknowledging God's involvement. along our path Now we may not always observe it being there. We seem that head that's titled the Unseen hand but that's hindsight. 20/20 Jacob looks back over the course of his life when he sees the hand of God Almighty and so as we passed it, it's going to take some acknowledge realizing of his promises and sharing those promises and communicating those promises to the generation of a better hope that we have in Jesus Christ that we were all looking forward to whether it's through the Rapture of the Grave for the coming of Christ when he rules and Rams this Earth we yearn for that piece for that day when all will be under his care and he will have come back just as he promised and taking us to be with him. As we pass on this Legacy and not only involves looking at God's place in his part in our in our path along the way his promises for the future. But his presence that has a child of God a weird even precious promises as we continue our journey and as he's with us he can also be with those that we would seek to impact for the faith. They can know his presence leaving Lake to Faith technology God's involvement looking at his promises for a future and knowing his presence in our present Proverbs chapter 20 verse 7 says the just man walking in his integrity and his children are blessed after him. adjust man one who understands what the true Justice really is. It speaks of righteousness that comes from God and come to the knowledge of God adjust man walking his children are blessed after him. We ride on the coattails of those that far ahead of us for justice and righteousness William Wilberforce. For example, John Newton, you can thank those men and those preachers of gods were much for the abolishment of slavery as we knew it one time in this country. And so as we look at those kind of Heroes that were persecuted in Congress and their names, And everyone everyone seemed to be against them now people are free because of the work they did but understand the truth of the Son of God that sets people free at the sun make you free. You should be free indeed Proverbs. 13:22 says a good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just notice as we look at Genesis 48, I draw your attention to the center portion of the passage. Well, maybe about two-thirds of the way through and 16th, and then let's work from there and get the surrounding context even back in the chapter 47, you look a little bit of what was going on there, but you would verse 15 and 16 together. Let's read together out loud to join me now and he blessed Joseph and said my father's Abraham and Isaac. The garbage to this day be blessed and the name of my Father's Day Birmingham and Isaac and let them grow out of the earth noticed that there is an adoption that is singing this passage. I really leading up to what will become of double portion so it can spot Papa's bedside and this is the time when Joseph years that Jacob is sick and he brings Ephraim and Manasseh to come and have some final moments with Grandad before they have to say a final. Goodbye and lay Granddad to rest. This is a time is the time.

So Jacob is in an in a particular place and Gathering by Papa's bedside read it, and I probably won't. That's okay. They there you said you're a 3rd grade girl little girl. And and so it's called she entitled this essay. What's a grandmother? And she went on to say this a grandmother is a lady who has no children of her own. She likes other people's little girl boys and girls a grandfather is a man grandmother with the boys and they talk about fishing stuff like that. Grandmothers don't have anything to do except to be there.

It's enough if they drive us to the market where the pretend horses and have a lot of times ready. What's a Takis for walks? They should slow down cast things like pretty leaves.

Usually grandfathers are fat.

wear glasses funny underwear

grandmother's don't have to be smart. Only answer questions. Like why isn't God married or

Grandmother's they don't talk baby talk like visitors dude, because it's hard to understand when they read to us. They don't skip or if it's the same story over again. Everybody should try to have a grandmother especially if you don't have a television because they're the only grown-ups who have time. as we think about Jacob hearing that Joseph's on his way. He's bringing the grandkids. He's bringing grandchildren because he thought Joseph was dead. He says right here in this passage. I didn't ever think I would see your face. I never thought I'd ever even see you. Let alone. I've only seen you God's allowed me to see your children. My grandchildren. This is this is powerful. As we look at this meeting together, they're Gathering by Papa's bedside and he's getting ready to pass the Baton commentary mark this and I interchange the names Jacob and Israel is not as here and what somebody told Jacob and said behold. Thy son Joseph cometh to the look at the words here and Israel strengthened himself and sat upon the bed. Jacob beers, but its Israel who gets the strength to sit up. That's the point that they which was making and I think that's a wise observation The Interchange between the name is Jacob same person, but here Israel drawers that shrink that Jacob was given so where does Jacob and his old lady sitting on hate and sing the end of its physical strength and looking looking at all that's going on. He strengthens himself as Israel and I believe this was hand of God that moved and raised him up and allowed him the strength to be able to sit on his bed and read Hebrews said worship on his staff. He's giving glory to God here and he remembers God's goodness. We look at versus 3 and 4 and we see what he said as he sits going to bed. Jacob said on the Joseph know these words God Almighty. That is El Shaddai. We studied that name for God all the way back when we were learning about Abraham. And in that section of Genesis first time that we saw that was back when the Covenant promises where are all my apps from cover-to-cover in your body as we studied in Revelation to come to fruition. Think about the rent of the Lamb moron. Is that when it would you ever seen a lamb be wrathful? maybe when you try to head Buddies Whoever was in the pen with no you don't think about a lamb being wrathful. But the Lord Jesus Christ one day will pour His wrath out on sin on this Earth and he will establish his Reign his Rule and so he is God Almighty. He is El Shaddai. Use the old powerful the omnipotent God of heaven and Jacob here is remembering God's goodness to him. He says, this is the god Elohim El Shaddai appeared unto me at Lowe's in the land of Canaan and blessed me. He goes back to that moment when he was running for you ask. Well. If you go back and read the story of Jacob were recalled what we study together about him. He remains that place and so it's interesting to me. He's using the old man because that's what it was. But Hebrew name that plays Beth-El And that's where he met with God and God first appeared to him back in Genesis chapter 28 and renewed The Covenant promise with him personally. He says it was God Almighty just like you showed up to my granddaddy. He showed up to me and I pray that one day if the Lord tarries long enough and bless his my wife and I with grandchildren someday that they'll be able to say it was God Almighty the same the same God my granddaddy told me about I'd love for them one day to be telling others about the same. God God Almighty passing that on to eat. Remember NASA and we don't know much about geography book on Ephraim. No, we don't but I think there's some

This is 7. This is the son of Assonet. And as soon as the Nets that was a priest and he claims the boy has his own in the face of Israel. And makes no qualms about doing that even though he's a mixed girl. He's Joseph's son and by that he's welcomed into the family of Faith here. And so we don't get to saved by birth apart from the new birth. And so we're born again God welcomes. Each of us with open arms. The ground is level at the cross and we can all come to our God by faith through Jesus Christ and Joseph had that faith in God and Ephraim and Manasseh would have both been given that face. Maybe I should say that might help us keep them straight and it's not as if you've ever gone through the handfuls on purpose. That's a great resource. I've had it for years. I've had a pastor give that to me in and if you're ever involved in Ministry, Go to Resource, if you ever need outlines or studies or different things of that nature directly that I was thankful to see in Genesis 47 verse number 9 if you turn back and read their this was the account of Jacob City before pharaoh, and remember the account of his life in a row. Remember what he told Pharaoh. He said my life has been a few days, right? He says, he's 9 you said Jacob set of the favor of the days my years of the years of my pilgrimage are in 130 years and he will have the days of the years of my life and I have my father's in the days of their pilgrimage. And Jacob less payroll. And there were two estimates that were given by Jacob comparing that with verse number 15. I would also say hear what we read and burst number 3 and following would also account for that button verse 15. We read it out loud together. He said he blessed Joseph. It said God before through. My father's Abraham and Isaac from the difference what happened between 4815 I'll tell you to different perspective on life and these two estimates they differ greatly Accord two handfuls on purpose. I agree that the first is doleful. There's a spare does melancholy about it. It's a complaint how it illogical if the day is where people was it not

The secret is just this in the former. There's nothing about God. It's all about Jacob.

In the latter. We noticed a great deal more about God. That's the contract goodnight beautiful in that beautiful to see the difference God makes and it's testified to hear by Jacob Zone mouth. It's all about Jacob in Genesis. 47 verse number nine Gods left out. It's doleful is complaining so unreasonable to watch cool. It's all about God in Genesis 48 verse 15. He says the guy who fed me, that's The God Who Pastor me The God Who shepherded me. It's the same word Shepherd and many of the commissary to point that out the angel witch hats Verdean me the angel who is that there's multiple times where we can look at the life of Jacob and see if there's a reference there to the Lord Jesus Christ of the Lord. And so when he talks from God's perspective, it's all about being triumphant through the lord. It's about gratefulness and thankfulness about things when we have gotten our lives and when he was part of everything, A man and so as you look down on this life, isn't that kind of the the Paradox that we see when when I look at how weak I am and how frail I am. I Lord It's not much here. There's nothing but trouble everywhere I look but then when I get my eyes on God, I see all that he's done. I look back and I deserve what he's done enough. I am what I am by the grace of God all the praise. Nose look at verses 5 and 6. We see that they're preparing for a gift of an inheritance and now that two sons Ephraim and Manasseh will now I'm saying it like the biblical writer. Did he Trim in Manhattan?

Mine, that's kind of selfish of Jacob S bad word at our house special with 2 year olds. You laughing 26in progressing sometimes sometimes you go through that stage again where you're out of diapers for a long time in your life and then wind up back in the day when you're older at the formal process of adoption and their documents that attached to this whether you go to the laws of Hammurabi or other extra-biblical things are talk about how to handle things were done orally. And so this would be in oral transmission courthouse and signing over custody. Okay. This would be Jacob saying their mind I have adopted them. So now you see why I say In this passage of double blessings double portion. We have an adoption happening. So Jacob has taken them in as his own and said they are mine those sons that you have they are mine and Jacob adopts them and I think about how you know, I didn't do anything to deserve it. But when I came through Jesus Christ, who is my Joseph innocence and save me like Joseph save the world of his De Jesus Christ saved him through that. You know, my father was able to say adopted. I accept you in the Beloved and what a blessed truth about that is because now all the inheritance that it was in that was that was to be bequeathed to him that Kingdom promise and everything that has the price and go look at the inheritance has promised to the Saints Manassas. Didn't know it was all because of God's promises and the father decided that he would make the transaction of adoption and three pieces. Hallelujah sing songs about that and what the truth that is, so thankful for what we have in Jesus Christ on the Hills that we're back down in the star of the world again, because Jacob just can't can't forget what happened as he was leaving his headed back down to it to be in the promised land and the woman I love so much and work so hard I his life to be able to be with the mother that gave him Joseph and Benjamin Rachel died there in Ephrata and he ends this part right here back in the Sorrows of life not forgetting those and I think that we can even learn some things about that, you know, James such as any of you marry let him sing songs is any Afflicted I let him or let him in prayer and and so yeah, it's one of those things.

What was the same time? It's a Biblical thing that has to transpire in occur. Because you have the strength of the Lord in you and yet they're still paying you about this life and Jacob says, you know. It's just going to be sweeter when I get to heaven, you know, that is so much more to go go to heaven for there's an old gospel song. That seems that I have much more to go to heaven for today than I did yesterday and the longer we live down here the more we have up there waiting for us. I hopefully and prayerfully and you know, Jacob here talks about Beth when him and I don't think it was Jay Vernon McGee and his concert when it up the difference is that Bethlehem means to Jacob is to what it means to us. We think about Bethlehem and we started any Christmas songs theme in a little town of Bethlehem Jacob fix about Bethlehem, and he thinks about a to me thinks about a grave that's there and I got to visit Rachel's Tomb in Bethlehem. That should let us if it's controlled by the Arabs and I mean it

Find it quite an experience because we went in of course, you have to have to wear your head covering if your man and so I saw the the yarmulke that we had their on the piano the other day and reminded me of my time there I'll be able to go into the to the tomb of Rachel in to see him today still caught up in worshipping a monument and praying to to it to Monument when they missed, you know, what happened even greater at that for him and that Jesus was born in our savior came through there and effort but we went into the tomb of Rachel and and we were down the corridors and they were so nice to us. They offered us coffee and some of the best coffee can get out there by the way, and they walk this down this Hall and there was a Hollywood portraits on it about Israel's history and the Our God translate Tortoise and the lady said to tell us about all the stories.

All about the history of Israel waiting up to Rachel and her death in her burial there. She was giving birth to Benjamin Sorrowing over leistritz. What did what did Tesla mean to Jacob? What does it mean to us? You know, I think there's something to be said for that because this sorrowful World once we get our eyes off of that we can see that even in the midst of a place of Sorrow left Bethlehem. God brings hope and he brings life and where Rachel died Our Savior was born and that we can come through him to Heaven Bountiful blessings, Do we see the the adoption aspect of it? A double portion adopted tonight will take note of a Bountiful Blessing being shepherded by my redeemer. He is my redeemer and that's Jacobs were claimed to those as well. Jobe said it this way. I know my redeemer liveth Do you know that your redeemer? Is he your Redeemer? You claim him? There's a time of warm embrace verses 8 through 12 pick up the store here and Israel be held Joseph son instead. Is it getting senile here? What are the Astros let's read carefully and understand this this would be when they come down the aisle before the Altar and the formal proceeding and the bride enters and she's usually brought in to the traditional thing to do is have the the Father of the Bride come with the bride down the aisle and they stopped just short of the Altar and I as the officiant will ask something along these lines this woman to be married to this man and I have requirements. I hope that I remember her name. I'm not getting senile as a pastor when I say

I'm getting senile here. It's a formal proceeding because he's getting ready to pass the inheritance them just like I did when I was excited for them. Now. Jacob says trueworthy. So this is very serious moment. There's a solemness about it, but there is a time of warm embrace and he says who are these and Joseph's attitudes father. These are my sons has given me in this place and he said bring them. I pray thee unto me and I will bless them. Now the Ice Age 4 that he could not see. He could not see and yet he says The God Who has caused me to see your seed interesting how that plays out here. His eyes are dim and can't see he brought them and embraced them and Israel.

You paying attention? Israel said to Joseph. I not thought to see my face.

I think there's more going on here. I think holy spirit is in the dually involved in what's transpiring right before our I I didn't think I'd see your face and low. God has showed me also that but I've been able to see your son's my son's Joseph significance there to the proceedings as well with the Motions that are being given and he found the Earth.

Here is Vice President. Joseph hear his prime minister Joseph. Here is the one that all Egypt should be paying homage to and he's before his dad valuing and giving him the respect and honor do his dad. I think we've lost that in our generation it quite a bit. And we see the unfolding here is Jacob continues to bless and Joseph took them both left hand and manessa is left hand toward Israel and brought them laid upon Ephraim.

Are you going to can't see I don't know. How much taller are you freaking would be from Manassa how many years apart they are from each other. But Joseph is kind of figure out which ones that actually exist least. It was evil to Joseph is literal rendering there this please Joseph and Joseph is going to try to correct the correct Joseph and since I know exactly what I'm doing And so you see you even in his last breath. Jacob is still a man of control and still is ordering things. But I think hear things are finally beginning to solidify that we read about all the way back with the with, Rebecca. Prophecy was given her with twins everyone. Remember that that was prophecy and it was prophesied that the elders should serve the younger and who was that Jacob should rule over he saw and here he acknowledges. That's the plan of God and you trace it all the way back all the way back to the car and it's a thing that if you ever want to read the scriptures and see how many times did younger is blessed and how that works out. One of the great characters of Greek literature is tiresias of Thieves and the blind prophet who modesti his consults in the course of his return to Ithaca from Troy tiresias physical site for this blindness two things about him is compensated by his gift of seeing things to come and there's something like that. I think having here in final final chapters. Jacob is not able to physically see but spiritually he's being led by the Holy Spirit and I see processes hands and blesses Ephraim the younger he knows exactly what he's doing and there's some things that are happening here that could have been different they could have been different. Joseph has mail replaced Ruben as first born. Ephraim and Manasseh have now officially replaced Simeon and Levi. So who buys Union between Jacob and Leah would be Judah the lion of the tribe of Judah so now we're Rachel only two children to joke to to Jacob. She should have only really had two tribes. Now she whines up with three which will be at least one more. Try than both of the handmaid then ask her. Dad not to lie. Tribes two tribes Rachel will have three tribes Leah will have to remain tracks. The Savior will come through Judah Joseph now is in the place of the firstborn meaning he is the one that Jacob teams eligible for the double portion. The double blessing is time of embrace gives way to the passing of the torch of faith. In Genesis 48 verse 13. We took them both numbers 14 land font.

Wittingly for Manasseh was first born and he blessed Joseph God before whom father's Abraham and Isaac. Enoch walked with God and he was not for God took him. Jacob knew his Granddaddy and his dad at walk with God and that was where the promises of God came from. They walk before God that has the idea of a Shepherd sheet to go on a little bit of God that walk before God and then the very next statement. He says the god Which Wich shepherded me that has the idea of our Good Shepherd leading us and going before us God goes before God knows behind us before he is our God and Jacob is acknowledging that passing on the torch with face here before whom my father's Abraham and Isaac did walk the god which shepherded or fed me all my life long under this day.

Free free hungry by the time he came to lose by the time he got, you know on his journey up to pattan around. He might have been wondering man. What am I going to eat? I don't have anything but the staff of my hand and remember. God said me all the days of my life all that nice pot of tea was able to make 3 sauce. Yeah that came from got to and then his wanderings and then up there with Laban and all that happened with that and through all that two decades of his life to serve God. That's the one that fed me God's the one that bless me. It was his hand that did it look back over and you'll see you'll never see the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging bread. The psalmist attested that and I did to last Sunday if you remember those words, When Jacob, you know, I think it was actually Meijer in his book on Jacob Israel a prince with God the story of Jacob retold. He said this remember nothing can separate you from the love of God when she reviewed the dark passages of his life from the Serene Heights of his dying bed. He saw as he had never seen God had Shepherd in him all his his Angel have him from all evil and we do not realize it at the time but there is never an experience in life without the watch of that. Unsleeping Shepherd Eye Center position of the untiring shepherd hand the hand over on the pole as we pass through the operation shall separate us from the love of tribulation or distress or persecution or famine.

These things made never severed. Former eyes. These things excuse me, Mase ever got from erisa to think that was it. I didn't read that right. I forgot from our eyes and shut away the realization of his love, but they cannot make him see you still love us or hide us from him or separate us from him. So happy my rose words are still true today. Take heart you who are descending into the dark Valley of Shadow. The Good Shepherd is going at your side though. You see him not his rod and his stash of comfort you his own voice shall speak comfortably to you. fear not if you've ever read stories of a sheepdog still Keller's book on Psalm 23, you know exactly what he described sheep as being in there just poor pitiful creatures that need a Shepherd to watch over them alfredo. We are in light of how good God is and so we learn from Jacob hear that when he relies on his own strength. It's it's a few days and full of trouble. But when he's relying on God, he's the shepherd who watches over and Having learned that he can't be his own Shepherd tired of shepherding his own life as he did for many decades now, he observes how God protects and guides and he points his grandchildren to the faith in that Shepherd is redeeming angel. Who redeemed him if we think about his journey there was a time when God himself showed up to a man that was getting ready to kill Jake and Jacob feared for his life on more than one occasion and the angel of God stood in the way and redeem him two things to buy back, right?

And there's a whole study on Redemption that we don't have time for but notice the role reversal that happens. The younger over the Elder Ephraim is first even though he's second the last shall be first and the first shall be last. Bless them that day saying in the Shelf is real blessing on Ephraim for his childhood. We know Ephraim for his descendants, but between those two extremes precious little is told of his life when both were small and unproven we can only surmise that God picked him out for a reason. This author went on to point out his father or his brothers and his father Joseph when your father's need when Jacob bless Ephraim before Manasseh Joseph told him he made a mistake, but the first blessing

Jacob who was almost blind told his son. He made no mistake so we can assume then that Ephraim became a worthy Man live to Facebook what it is an assumption understand that but I think it's a ballad. When does descendants games descendants?

Jacob talks about the fullness of Israel hear how much Fuller could the reputation of Ephraim be then the day Joshua stood and said doubt Sun stand still a whole world know about Joshua. Where did he come from Ephraim tribe? That would be the first in the promised land the tribe that would have the captain at the front to go in and take what God has promised. That would be the tribe of Ephraim. And so Joshua the son of nun who was renamed by Moses. By the way to be Joshua. His name was OSHA, but he was used by God in a mighty way successor to Moses. One of Israel's greatest leaders that we study about came from Ephraim. And so God, it seems like God knew what he was doing. When he was moving Jacob to do this through the promised return and we're done. I promised return where Faith becomes sight departure looms there's The Parting of death and 20. Jacob says these words. I died. This made me think of what Jesus told his disciples you some going away fellows, maybe use that I'm going to have to depart but it's expedient for me that I go away for if I go not away. He said the comforter to not come here Joe Jacobs doing something similar. He tells Joseph in Ephraim and Manasseh and everybody else. I die. I'm going for what But God will be with you. And there's there's a comfort that comes from that. As we get older physically are sold can grow. Strong our desire to go to heaven can radiate and we can learn for that. Land Over Yonder. But as we remember what we leave behind, let's not forget. We need to leave the comfort that God goes with us. The preacher said the conclusion of the whole matter was What Fear God and keep his Commandments for this is the whole duty of man as we feared him. We look around us and say I don't want this world is just too much trouble. I'm ready to go home and be with God, but we leave a face to those that are coming behind us. God shall be with you good old Jacob can no more be with Joseph Spurgeon said for his labor for his hour had come to die, but he left his son without anxiety preset incontinence. God shall be with you and we leave that promise of faith and comfort when did old Jacob blessed to see from Joseph into said and God has done the same crosses each day with trials hot. The Christians path has been and who has found a happy lot without a cross between That's so my father off. We say this pain is grief remove too blind to Fathom wisdom's way or think $0.02 in love. The gifts above measure now. This is a verse that is intriguing to me as chapter 48 closes. You read a verse 22 after Jacob says I'd I got to be with you and promises you can take you back to the land. Your father's going back home someday. Don't let it trouble you guys going to go with you all the way with a verse 22 more over on top of that. Not only are you going back to the land of promise and you're getting out of Egypt someday? But look what I'm going to do here moreover. I have given to the one portion above thy Brethren which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow. memories not that and wife of Jacob I don't. When did that happen, dude? You're all over the place on this first I think.

Assumption there's a story that Moses didn't tell us about Jacob that there was a linguist are correct when they're talking about amorites being the headlights as Representative term for all the legal notices talking about a larger group of people have an American but I'm also Coloradoan. Okay in MRI could also be here by in that sense. They were the Dwellers of Canaan dwellers of Canaan are not yet full. God would tell his real to hold off some time for them to go back in. So what happened here, I think there's also good precedent and a play on words if nothing else has play on words and I do take the I think it's the easiest way to understanding the way fruchtenbaum put it in his book and I think he's got some good things to say there in his Bible commentary. What intrigues me about this? Is that the word portion is this is the Hebrew word shut down. And it literally means a Ridgetop or a hill somewhere. So this is us. This is a place that Jacob had possession of the only place for smile and like Abraham did for the children of Hess Jacobs bought a little piece of ground, but I don't know but that's the same thing. He's talking about here. This is really interesting. One commentator at the West fruchtenbaum who said The Sword and the bow are talking about Simeon and Levi and this was that whole mess back in chapter 34 surrounding Dyna. Remember all that mess. Well that if you take that perspective, I think it's a good way to go because doesn't it kind of bring out the Providence of God and working good out of evil and all that mess to come full circle and wind up to take up positions can wind up with Joseph. the song Promise and isn't it interesting one day Our Saviors going to walk through and say I must needs go through Samaria and it's going to land on a place where little well is that Jacob Doug? Someday? Jacob's Well is there and he's going to talk to Samaritan woman about how to go to heaven the greatest Solunar That Ever Walked the face of the Earth is going to show her the truth about Messiah and she's going to find the Waters of eternal life right there in that place. Could that be where Jacob took this land with his sword in his boat could be the land of the amorites the well at sychar in land of Samaria, isn't this where Joseph's going to one day be laid to rest if there's good good precedent for seeing this as being in that area. Where is

This shows us that Tom about any of this.

Might just surprise you when you get to heaven the good things that God has for you. Hasn't entered into the heart of man the things that he's prepared for us all the Sorrows all the trouble all the coil all the persecution we go through down here one day. Our father is going to say. Oh yeah, by the way, I got a little something special for you. This came through toil and this came through it, you know a greve of circumstance, but now you can enjoy the blessing of it and it's yours. It's yours for all eternity. What a passage that brings us to Fuller understanding as Jacob is getting ready for the part. That's why he passes on his way to his grandchildren and let us learn from them on how important it is to leave a legacy behind a legacy of Faith. He had received it from his father and his grandfather and now he leaves it for the generations to come behind life goes on one generation at a time and God preserves his word to every generation in every generation by generation leave behind and a legacy that can be thought of as a kind of inheritance. It's usually, you know, we think of money in cash and those kind of things physical assets much more important. The promises of God like Jacob's doing here to the coming generations and what a responsibility we have. Do we not in this regard as leading others and passing on to Facebook man who will teach others also passing that baton of discipleship to them with humility with gratitude for what God has done all along the way knowledge in his good hand on us looking for the promises to come and leaving that Legacy of faith not leaving a bad example.
