Principles emphasized in Chapter 11

1. Believers should worship in the light of the trinity

2. Order in worship is based on the order of creation

3. Men and women in the local church should glory in their uniqueness

4. Men and women should always recognize mutual dependence

5. The order in nature is to be reflected in the church (worship)

6. Believers need to realize that there is no relationship on any level (all the way to the godhead) that does not need authority in order to be efficient and orderly

7. This authority does not violate equality

Dignity in the local church—11:2-16

• Starts with a commendation—v. 2

• The reminder—v. 3 (assumes authority is basic to order): 1) God and Christ; 2) Man and woman; 3) Authority is expressed with the word “head”

• Activity in the local church—vv. 4-6: 1) Of man—v. 4; 2) Of woman—vv. 5-6

Ordinance (tradition)—v. 2

• “To give” and “along”—what is delivered from generation to generation

• Tradition is both . . . : 1: Good—examples: 11:23, 2 Thess. 2:15, 3:6; 2) Bad—examples: Matt. 15:6, Mark 7:8, Gal. 1:14

“Praying and Prophesying”—three basic oral communication gifts

• Apostle—obtained truth

• Prophet—proclaims that truth

• Teacher—explains that truth

Propriety in the local church—vv. 7-10

• As demanded be creation

• As demanded by angels
