Jesus’ High Priestly Prayer

While Jesus was in the upper room with his disciples the night of the Lord’s supper and His betrayal.
John 17:20–23 ESV
“I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.
I want to draw your attention to the proclamation that Jesus makes in His prayer to the Father because in it there is a big promise. One that we will need if we are to understand the fullness of our unity in the faith.
John 17:22 ESV
The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one,
Jesus says that what he is doing in taking the glory given him by the Father and giving it to us will create unity like that of the Trinity. I crave that kind of unity for our church and the entire LCMS. I don’t necessarily see it happening like Jesus prayers here in John 17 which took me to investigate what Jesus might have ment when He spoke of the “glory” that His Father had given Him.
This is a great bible study practice btw if you are trying to figure out how to study the bible. When you have a question like this: “What does Jesus mean when he says the word glory here?” Do a word search in the book your reading . The word glory shows up 15 times, then I looked for glorified which shows up 23 time & in that search I found Jesus teaching right after the last supper in.
John 13:31–32 ESV
When he had gone out, Jesus said, “Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in him. If God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and glorify him at once.
Jesus glorifies God in his forgiving the sins of the world in his crucifixion as God intended it. Jesus is glorified because he has accomplished the will of God, because God is glorified in Jesus. God also glorifies Jesus in Himself. Namely, Jesus is raised to life on easter.
Therefore what we see is this perfect symmetry between Jesus and God as they work in unity to accomplish their purpose.
So we must understand what Jesus is promising us, in his prayer. That through His death & resurrection he is bringing us into perfect symmetry with the Trinity. To that end I pray that God would expand our horizons and the expression of that unity here in us.

Unity in the Body

Ephesians 4:1–3 ESV
I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

LCMS Altar and Pulpit Fellowship

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod has 38 partner churches around the world. A partner church is a church body with whom the LCMS has full altar and pulpit fellowship.
Many LCMS partner churches are also members of the International Lutheran Council, a worldwide association of confessional Lutheran church bodies.

Lutheran Church in Ghana

“It is said that a man got to know about Lutheranism, and he wanted a church in Ghana. He was referred to The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS). The Missouri Synod said, ‘You have a sister church in Africa.’ And so, missionaries from Nigeria were sent to Ghana. And that is how the Lutheran church began.”

India Evangelical Lutheran Church

In 1894, India was the first mission field of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. The work was blessed with mass movements, especially among the oppressed people of the land.
Responding to this interest, the LCMS sent 60 missionaries to India between 1920 and 1930. In 1924, Concordia Theological Seminary was established in the town of Nagercoil at the southern tip of India.
Three hospitals were established around South India, and they continue to serve today. The Missouri Evangelical Lutheran Mission (MELIM) also established a considerable school system, which today has come to include 59 elementary schools, 11 high schools, seven schools for the handicapped, a teachers training institute, and five boarding homes. About 800 teachers serve in the school system.
MELIM worked in two major language areas (Tamil and Malayalam), and the church has moved into seven more language areas. Besides the 160 active pastors, it has 90 deaconesses, catechists, evangelists, etc., and 20 church planters.
