Introduction

Believers lost their homes, property, money, possessions.
It was terrible persecution.
They were living for Christ - The only thing to encourage them was to Gospel story.
Just like today, people wanted to hear about:
Salvation
eternal life
hope
But, they don’t want to hear about:
Repentance
Sin
They want welfare “Something for Nothing”
But true Christians know better
while we keep looking to our salvation, we have to act.
dedicate our lives
get our minds ready
which in turn gets us ready

I)BE FOCUSED: On God’s Grace

focus on the coming grace
Grace is what is showered on us BUT WE DON’T DESERVE IT!
But He loves us
so He provided us a way to be bought
Just as Hosea bought Gomar
God bought us even though we are His
He made us and owns us, yet He paid a price for us.
But know This: We are not in heaven yet
we still will battle:
sin
temptation
evil
corruption
we have to pursue the
day salvation
day of grace
Pursue God’s salvation and grace by:

Girding up the loins of our minds

gather all our loose thoughts
concentrate and focus on the coming of Jesus Christ
Illustration
Girding up the robes when men worked
we need to Strain - Concentrate
on every thought
try to stay true to
the truth
honesty
justice
purity
love
Philippians 4:8 (CSB)
8 Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable—if there is any moral excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy—dwell on these things.
d. Don’t let your thought roam:
2 Corinthians 10:3–5 (CSB)
3 For although we live in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh,
4 since the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but are powerful through God for the demolition of strongholds. We demolish arguments
5 and every proud thing that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ.

II) BE FOCUSED: Upon Obedience

We are supposed to be so obedient
that it become a simple habit.
We could conform ourselves to the sinful nature - we could lust after many things - so we have it in us to desire - but instead of sin - lust after Christ!
a person without Christ is simply a child of desire - a wasted life - a life without purpose.
we must have the necessities of life
God made us desire these things
But when it is all we think about, it is wrong!
THE POINT: God is not in some far off galaxy - He is right here and now!
He sent Jesus
He sent and still sends the Holy Spirit
Matthew 12:50 (CSB)
50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”

III) BE: Upon Holiness

Means to be
righteous
pure
Godly
sinless
seperated
We should live Holy lives: (3 Reasons)
because GOD IS HOLY!
GOD is
absolute righteousness
purity
perfection
fulfillment
absolute separation
b. Because God calls us to live Holy lives
i. our purpose
to be Holy
pure
sinless
fulfilled
and separate from the world
Because Scripture demands we be Holy
Leviticus 11:45 (CSB)
45 For I am the Lord, who brought you up from the land of Egypt to be your God, so you must be holy because I am holy.
Leviticus 19:2 (CSB)
2 “Speak to the entire Israelite community and tell them: Be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy.
Leviticus 20:7 (CSB)
