Live In The New Life In Christ
Live In The New Life In Christ
10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
Live in the new life in Christ.
What do we do after we come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ? We know what we should do. Live wholeheartedly for the Lord. That is so much easier said than done. Paul wrote the book of Colossians from prison. Paul did not plant the Colossian church and had never been there. But he had a deep burden for the church.
These words are great just at the reading of them, but when you understand the problems facing this church, the words are even more powerful. They are timeless and apply to us just as much is not more so.
The Apostle Paul was up against the Judaic-Gnostic heresy that sought to mix Greek philosophy with Christian theology. Gnostic believed that matter was evil. In order to avoid having their pure god create evil, they had created a system of lesser deities that overflowed from their god. These lesser gods were far enough removed from the pure god that they were able to create the universe (which was composed of evil matter). They named this lesser deity the Jehovah God of the Hebrews.
They named this lesser deity the Jehovah God of the Hebrews.
So Paul is contending for the faith. He is reminding this church that Jesus Christ is Lord of all and is not second to anyone or anything. We see this in the world today. Where they try to merge Christian faith with something else to make it more appealing. Some examples are Christian pagans who are working to show the feminine side of God, Christian Wicca who think the Holy Spirit is mother god and actually took the form of Mary which is contrary to scripture.
10 There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer
11 or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead,
12 for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord. And because of these abominations the Lord your God is driving them out before you.
We must stay strong in the faith and know what is the word of truth. We need to continue to renew our knowledge in the truth.
Deutronomy 18:10-12
1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
-2
We are all united by Jesus Christ. The atonement purchased permanently by Jesus Christ is available to all who believe.
9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Forgive one another.
13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.
Sometimes it is not easy to forgive. We are hurt and we may the other person to hurt as much as we do. Is that demonstrating the perfect will of Christ? No. Sometimes when our emotions go one way, we have to allow the Holy Spirit to give us insight. This insight only happens when we turn to the Master. What did our Master say when He had been tortured and did not even look human from the savage beating?
Forgive one another.
53 Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels?
But He did not. He is our ultimate Pastor and High Priest in all things. When He was tortured, instead of the destroying the world,
34 And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments.
We must choose to forgive. If not, we are allowing bitterness to grow and fester. We are also living in the past. We must live in the present and look to the future. Instead of saying, “Lord, how could you allow this to happen to me” we will say instead, “Lord, I can not wait to see how you are going to make something beautiful out of these ashes”. This is part of living in the new life. Be that new creation.
Whatever you do, do it in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God.

Feast on the Word of God. Eat it up. Let it shine from every pore. Keep looking to Jesus Christ who is the author and finisher of our faith. Allow the Word of God to transform you. Do not be tempted as others are and try to transform the Word of God. The Lord loves you more than you could even imagine. Our English language does it an injustice. Our finite mind can not comprehend it.
3 the Lord appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.
Conclusion:
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
One of my favorite hymns is “It Is Well With My Soul”
One of my favorite hymns is “It Is Well With My Soul”
Verse 2
My sin oh the bliss of this glorious thought
My sin not in part but the whole
Is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, o' my soul
Verse 3
It is well with my soul
It is well with my soul
And Lord haste the day when my faith shall be sight
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll
The trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend
Even so it is well with my soul
