What happens to non-believers, non-Christians when they die?
What happens to non-believers, non-Christians when they die?
Wider Hope
not absolutely straightforward
in the sense we cannot say that all unbelievers all non-believers will go and be burned up in what's called thelake of fire destroyed in the lake offire that would be untrue here you haveto talk about what's called the widerhope let me put the logic of the widerhope to you like this interesting massif2 4 & 5 we read that God's desire isthat everybody gets saved I believe thateverybody means everybody it's God'swill to be saved just to be givenimmortality and to live forever and everso God's will is that everybody getssaved and come to a knowledge of thetruth that's a wonderful definition ofbeing saved by the way you can't saywell I'm saved because I acceptedsomething vaguely without definition nowyou have to come to the knowledge of thetruth and then he gives you that idea inverse 5 there's one God that's theknowledge of the truth there's also onemediator between that one God and thehuman race and that is Messiah Jesus whois himself man I hope that you're takingin that Creed nothing as complex anddifficult to understand as the Trinitythey're a very simple unitarymonotheistic statement alright now ifGod wills everybody to be saved andpatiently in the Bible some are notsaved it follows that they're makingtheir own choice not to be savednow how does that work think if you willabout the billions of people who livebefore Jesus even came think of thebillions internationally people havenever heard of genes they lived and diedlet's say for 50 years 400 years evenand they were quote good people as faras they understood goodness they'd neverheard of Jesus now it follows as asimple point of fairness and justicethat you cannot condemn people for whatthey couldn't possibly have known sodon't tell me that there's billions ofpeople who lived and died without everJesus could possibly be condemned fornot having heard of it that must followthis is called the wider hope in Romans2 Paul talks about people who do some ofthe law they'd get some things right bynature they're not doing it asChristians who the Spirit of God they'dnever heard of Jesus but they're doinggood things by the law of right andwrong which is possessed by every humanbeing first you angry so there will beglory and honor and peace for those whoare doing good within the limits of whatthey honestly could manage that is inverse 12 all who sin outside the lawthat's without any reference of the lawof God they die without reference tothat but he can sin under the lawresponsible to the law in the case ofthe New Covenant the New Covenant lawthen you are going to be judged in thecoins for that here's the standingprinciple it's not those who hear thelaw who are just in the sight of God tobe justice to be right rather than wrongrather those who observe the Torah inthe case of Christians the Torah ofMessiah will be counted as right notwrong now look at this fascinating verse14 when the Gentiles who do not have thelaw by nature observes the prescriptionsof the lawthat's not very clear in thattranslation where the comma goes whenthe Gentiles who don't have the lawobserved by nature that should readthey're doing it out of instinct some ofthe law these they show that the demandsof the law are written in their heartsthey are they never heard of Jesus sincemillions of people and their consciencethen is bearing witness and making thejudgments either for against them that'svery very interesting there's a wholeclass and of people who've never heardof Jesus who cannot be in the firstresurrection when only those who believein Messiah will be resurrected so wheredo they belong the answer is they belongin the second resurrection there are twomajor resurrection if you can't theresurrection of Jesus there are threeChrist was the first to be Ray that's in1st Corinthians 15 after that all thefaithful of all the ages who belong toChrist who believed in Christ they getraised thenthe third-stage what Paul calls the endof the Resurrection sequence and now Iwant to talk about them in Revelation 20you first see the first resurrectionexplained has been arguedmuddled confused controverted endlesslytelling why the devil doesn't like thatpassage and he's caused all sorts ofconfusing trouble to happen to it quiteunnecessarily in my opinion it's a verystraightforward passage perfectly clearas long as you're prepared to believewhat it says what does it say Jesusthey're giving the book of Revelationbecause it's the revelation of JesusChrist and given by him wrote itdown John saw Thrones and they wereoccupied there were people sitting onthem who were given authority to berulers to be supervisors to judge tojudge you know the Bible's to be a kingto be in supervisor to be in charge andI also saw the people those people whoare like that translation I think someversions have the souls of those whodrew many that's an excellenttranslation simply means those peoplewho had been the headed there aresingled out for a special mention herewhy would they be Haiti because of theirgospel preaching about Jesus testimonyof Jesus gospel as Jesus preached it andall about Jesus and because of God'sWord which is roughly the same thing yousee the Word of God in scriptures notjust the Bible vaguelyit's the Gospel message of the kingdompreached by Jesus and Paul these goodpeople had not worshiped the beast orhis image that is that final ruler whoprecedes precedes the time of the secondcoming and these wonderful people hadnot accepted the mark of the beastwhatever that turns out to be which hadbeen written on their foreheads or intheir hands that's one in their thinkingcapacity but when they're doing theiractivity and these good people came tolife in resurrection you get it theycame to life from death I just told youthey were sleeping the sleep of deathnow in this marvelous vision they cameto life and began I would call that aand inceptive eres simply they began toreignthey started to rain with the Messiahfor a thousand years isn't thatwonderfulthey're not reigning with Christ now infact for one people against that he sayssome of you think you're ruling theworld right now forget it even Jesus hadnowhere to put his head downPaul was battered from place to place hewas rescued he wasn't ruling the worldso that's absolutely clear that is whatwe call a premillennial reading of thisit means that Jesus comes back freebefore the Millennium begins in order torule in the Millennium a time when thedevil cannot deceive anyone anymorebecause he's been removed from the sceneI hope that's clear to all of you nowthe rest of the dead in verse 5 did notcome to life in resurrection that issame as the earlier reference to comingto life they didn't get resurrecteduntil the thousand years were completedis that clear the rest the remainder ofthe day that's to say all who were notthe faithful of all the ages who wereprepared for the first resurrectionthese other people the entirety of therest of the Dead not come to life untilthe thousand years were over is thatclearit's at the end of the thousand yearsthat that's going to happen when it doessay the rest of the Dead it doesn't saysome of the rest of the Dead everybodywho's not in the first resurrectioncounts as the rest the remainder of theDead and this is takes and acts as weknow where Paul speaks of a resurrectionof the just and a resurrection of theunjust so everybody gets resurrected wecannot decide for God what he's going todo apparently then God makes wants tomake a public spectacle of those whotragically had become the incorrigiblewicked those people if they've beenChristians had received a full knowledgeof the truth and they are absolutelyguilty when they gave that up theirremains as that's the keypassage said they remained no furtherforgiveness of sin or sacrifice for sinthose people have gone over the top inthe sense of evil they're incorrigiblyevil and they're part of the rest of theday will get raised from death in thesecond resurrection only to be destroyedGod can do thatthat's his privilege so I would hesitateto contradict the idea of the remainderof the Dead say well it doesn't reallymean the rest it means only some of therest so then he gets back to the pointwhen he says this is the firstresurrection what is well thatresurrection was just been described ofthe beheaded the martyrs and all thegood people who hadn't worshiped theBeast this is called the firstresurrection second death has no powerover them they cannot possibly bedestroyed foreverwhen those thousand millennial years arecompleted the Satan the ancient Satan'sthe devil is going to be released fromhis prison where he'd been put at thebeginning of the thousand years and hegathers nations from the four corners ofthe earth northern kingdoms apparentlyRussia that area north of Israel Gog andMagog and he gets them together forbattle now the devil here who has beenreleased from his thousand-yearimprisonment doesn't get to destroy theentire millennium and undo everything asJesus has done he only gets to affectthe last generation of human beingsmortal human beings living on the earthduring a thousand years but he's able toaffect adversely a few of them at leastand they get taken in would you believeit I mean how stupid are we as a humanrace we need to finish though thatpassage with the verse at the end ofRevelation 20 if anyone was not foundwritten in the book of life they werethrown into the lake of fire destroyedforever notice that some found their wayinto the life in the second resurrectionof Anna's to be the people who could notpossibly have known about salvation andyet they were raised in the secondresurrection and some of them not allbut some of them qualified they callthis the wider hope they qualify forimmortality by being written into thebook of life from the secondresurrection isn't that fascinating youhope you'll ponder that the logic of allof this is that God is very merciful hedoesn't judge adversely people whoreally could not have known the truthJesus himself said these famous wordsJesus in twice said if I hadn'ttold you you wouldn't be guilty isn'tthat wonderful but now that I've comeand told you Jesus said to those enemiesit is now you're guilty because you'veheard the truth and you are nowresponsible for acting on that truthbelieving it and doing it that is onlyjustice and we recognize that as justiceeven in our limited fallen justicesystems to think firstly that God willnot torture anyone consciously foreversecondly he will not put out ofimmortality automatically those who'venever had a chance to hear they have tohave that chance in the secondresurrection and some of them howeverthis happens will be granted the life ofthe age to comeimmortalityEnglish
