What are 3 reasons for spiritual gifts?
1. Edify the Church
12 So also you, since you are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek to abound for the edification of the church.

Tonight lets look at Giving, Administration, and Mercy
These 3 gifts are the 3 practical gifts (motivations)

Giving
8 or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

8 Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.
Give, those who have, give to others.
11 you will be enriched in everything for all liberality, which through us is producing thanksgiving to God.
12 For the ministry of this service is not only fully supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing through many thanksgivings to God.

The Greek word for gives here is, metadidōmi which means, share, impart by contributing to needs

Some translation say, distribute. Its the same word uses in terms like, “give birth.”

The idea is, you have been given a gift but the gift is not for you.
Now this is a theme of all gifts but the gift of given implies, giving liberality or with simplicity.
Meaning without self-seeking, openness of heart and freely.
Delighting in the pleasure of giving for giving sake.
luke 6:
38 “Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.”
The result of giving is receiving not just for you to hold on to but for you to give more.
13 Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.
Givers are sensitive to the needs of others and look for an opportunity to encourage others giving to their needs.

The person with a motivational gift of giving generally has a keen ability to make wise investments and purchases in order to have more money to give.
A desire to give quietly to effective projects or ministries.
The person with the gift of giving is usually eager to motivate others to give.
A joy of when their gift is an answer to specific prayer.
The person with the gift of giving relies upon the wise counsel of his spouse.

Sometimes their efforts to conserve resources can turn into being “plain cheap.”
Givers can react negatively to pressure to give, assuming that others can and should meet a need, since the need is well publicized.

He who leads or rules.
Leads is the Greek word, proistamai. which means to lead, or direct.

Every Christian should be able to manage their home well.

Meaning to make haste, to do one’s best, to take care and take seriously.

A leader must be fervent in spirit and keep moving to new challenges, always be focused on a goal or vision.

The organizer leads others to complete projects.
The ability to see the overall picture and to clarify long-range goals
Willing to take whatever time is needed to do the job well.
A desire to move on to a new challenge when a previous task is completed.
Even-keeled—it takes a lot to ruffle his feathers.

Because of their need to constantly be “conquering new mountains,” organizers can easily frustrate others who do not share their vision.
As a result of their focus on the big picture, organizers often appear to be uninvolved and/or uninterested.
Mercy
Mercy
8 or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

Mercy is the Greek word eleaō, meaning have pity, exercise mercy.

The gift of mercy is a special compassion and gift of ministering love to those in need.

Mercy is also empathy.
8 For we can do nothing against the truth, but only for the truth.

The gift of mercy is the ability to be sensitive to the emotional position of others and willing to put another persons needs first.

A mercy-giver’s basic motivational drive is to sense and respond to the emotional and spiritual needs of others.

Mercy-givers sense and reflect the spiritual and emotional atmosphere around them.
